Satellites
Autumn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Did you see me the other night?
Did I catch your eye, your attention
sliding by on a cloudless night?
Spying down and spinning around
To the naked eye I'm far from a sight to see
Drawing lines on both hemispheres and the stars outshine me

Always analyzing
Sending out our findings
It occurs to me...

We are all satellites with golden wings inhaling the light
Pushed to meet criteria in the long run

Don't you think that I've had my share
That the burden I bear compares to what I receive
If you label me obsolete I'll remain here among, and as a part galactic debris

We are all satellites with golden wings inhaling the light
Pushed to meet criteria in the long run
We are all satellites with golden wings inhaling the light
Hope to meet criteria in the longer run
Have I outstayed my welcome here?

But I may linger a little longer, hang around for no particular purpose or reason
Before you burn me in your atmosphere (crash me into your sea.)
push me out of your orbit...

...know that I will always remember
Know that I won't consider surrender

Overall Meaning

The song "Satellites" by Autumn reflects on the human condition of always analyzing and searching for something beyond ourselves. The opening lines ask if the listener noticed the singer, suggesting that they feel insignificant and unnoticed in the vastness of the universe. The lines, "To the naked eye I'm far from a sight to see, Drawing lines on both hemispheres and the stars outshine me," reinforces this sentiment. The singer admits to being preoccupied with analyzing and sending out their findings, which has led to them becoming a satellite in space.

However, this metaphorical satellite is not alone, as the song reminds us that we are all satellites with golden wings inhaling the light, pushed to meet criteria in the long run. This could be a reference to societal expectations and standards that we must strive to meet. Despite feeling like an outsider or being labeled as obsolete, the singer declares that they will remain a part of the galactic debris and will always remember their time among the stars. The final lines, "Before you burn me in your atmosphere, push me out of your orbit...know that I will always remember, Know that I won't consider surrender," suggest that the singer may be willing to leave, but will not give up or forget their experience.

Overall, the song touches on themes of isolation, purpose, and perseverance in the face of adversity. It encourages us to remember our place in the universe and to keep searching for meaning, even if we feel insignificant.

She Has a great voice!!!!

@brokennick

Had this a fair few weeks now. LOVING the synths! Big 70s influences, much more interesting arrangements than all the big symphonic female fronted bands. The cd feels a lot like a proggy, non-heavy Dark Tranquillity... good stuff :)

I love it. It has sentimental value as the anthem of my freshmen year on my iPod.
