Carry Me Over
Avantasia Lyrics

(vocals by Tobias Sammet)

(Tobias Sammet)
Never been told my prayers would be answered
Wherever I go I see you around
Never been told that something that beautiful
Would bring me up to let me down
Waiting up on the roof, waiting up in the rain
Just to catch a glimpse of your face
Even when you're around
Still I'm out of sight, out of sound
In your world I'm out of place

Carry me over
Carry me over
Carry me over now

You're like a ghost that I can't let go
You follow every step that I take
Never thought someone could be too close to you
Now across the street is miles away

And now I might as well be the man on the moon
I am watching but you don't seem aware
But I won't be around
I'll be out of sight, out of sound
Someone's gonna wait, somewhere

Carry me over

Carry me over
Carry me over now

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Avantasia's "Carry Me Over" explore the feeling of unrequited love and the emotional struggle that comes with it. Tobias Sammet sings about never being told that his prayers would be answered, but seeing the person he loves everywhere he goes. He describes this person as something that is truly beautiful yet brings him up only to let him down.

The singer of the song is so desperate for even just a glimpse of this person that he waits up on the roof in the rain just to catch a glimpse of their face. Despite being around this person, he still feels out of sight and out of sound, never fitting in their world, making him feel like he's out of place. He pleads to be carried over, presumably to a world where he can be with this person and fit in.

The chorus repeats the phrase "Carry Me Over" over and over again, emphasizing the singer's need to be taken away from his current world and carried to one where he can be with the person he loves. The bridge describes the person he loves as a ghost he can't let go of, following every step he takes, and being too close yet miles away.

Overall, "Carry Me Over" is a heartbreaking but relatable portrayal of unrequited love and the desire that comes with it.

I have been in a similar situation like this guy. I hereby appeal to everyone. PLEASE, try not to fall in love with people that don't return the attention you give. No, they are not busy, no they are not shy, or any else imaginary characteristic you think they might have. Truth is, they are either in love with someone else or not into you. It's that cruel and simple. Take a step back before it plagues your mind, and trust me, that is going to hurt. A lot.

The song intention is not to waste time to take contact to someone you may love not more.

@roldirevan2130

It doesn't have to hurt if you love yourself enough. Once you get to realize that, you have won.
