Say Something
B.C. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tell me what you want...
Tell me what you want...

Tell me what you want Tell me what you need
Love is just a choice A choice that I don't need
Say something, I'm giving up on you
Say something, I give a fuck, don't you
Like I can barely take it, but your voice is always haunting what it was
Like I changed, like I once remembered your name
But the love, Ya it's starting to fade Woah

I just seen yo' other man, he said you wifey
Crying in his fucking hands he said he like me and hope that I can understand
I said I might be

Tell me what you want Tell me what you need
Love is just a choice A choice that I don't need
Say something, I'm giving up on you
Say something, I give a fuck, don't you
Like I can barely take it, but your voice is always haunting what it was

Like I changed, like I once remembered your name
But the love, Ya it's starting to fade Woah

Overall Meaning

In the song "Say Something" by B.C., the repeated invitation to "tell me what you want" and "tell me what you need" sets the stage for a conversation about love and emotional turmoil. The lyrics convey a sense of frustration and disconnect within a romantic relationship, as the singer grapples with the idea of love being a choice that they feel they no longer need. This sentiment is emphasized through the plea to "say something" and the realization that they are giving up on the other person. There is a raw honesty in the lyrics as the singer expresses their inner conflict about the fading love between them.

The lyrics also touch on themes of betrayal and heartbreak, as the singer references encountering the significant other's supposed "other man" who refers to them as his "wifey." This revelation adds a layer of complexity to the emotional turmoil that the singer is experiencing, highlighting the pain of feeling replaced or cheated on. The lyrics capture a moment of vulnerability as the singer confronts this challenging situation and tries to come to terms with it, expressing their uncertainty and confusion about where they stand in the other person's life.

The sense of resignation and disillusionment is palpable in the singer's words as they express feeling like they are barely holding on, with the other person's voice haunting them and memories of a love that is now fading away. The repeating refrain of "like I changed, like I once remembered your name" suggests a longing for the past and a recognition of the ways in which the relationship has transformed. The emotional weight of the situation is further underscored by the realization that love is beginning to fade, signaling a turning point in the singer's perspective on the relationship and their own emotional well-being.

Overall, the lyrics of "Say Something" by B.C. convey a complex mix of emotions, including frustration, betrayal, longing, and resignation. The singer's inner turmoil and struggle to come to terms with the changing dynamics of their relationship are palpable throughout the song. Chorus]
Say something, I'm giving up on you
Sorry that I couldn't get to you
Anywhere I would've followed you
So say something, I'm giving up on you

[Verse 1]
And I will stumble and fall
It's all over my head
I know nothing at all
And I, I'm feeling so small
You're the one that I love
I'm saying goodbye

[Chorus]
So say something, I'm giving up on you
I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
Anywhere I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you

[Verse 2]
And I will swallow my pride
I'm still learning to love
But I'm saying goodbye

[Bridge]
So say
I'm so sorry I couldn't get to you
So say
I'm so sorry that I couldn't get to you...

Mr. Banks.... my friend and I were in the very front row of your concert last evening. We have been waiting for months to see you!!!! Lord.....have....mercy.... you did not disappoint. In fact, we were speechless. The words were just ineffable. We're both older women who have been to hundreds of concerts and we're going to keep entertaining ourselves until the wheels fall off.
But let me say this.... We have NEVER see a performance like what we witnessed last night. For us, it's all about the "feel". You don't just sing, you "feel" your music so intensely, that it truly gave us pause. It was astounding to witness. We walked away from the stage, shell-shocked. The show was exceptional and everything we love about music, you put it all right there for us, ticking off every box. You are in a class all by yourself. What an honour and privilege it was to be there and watch such greatness. My utmost respect. Well, well, done, Mr. Banks.
Well, well done.
