The lyrics are actually the first four lines of a poem called "Versos Sencillos" (Simple Verses) by renowned Cuban poet and revolutionary, Jose Marti. Baaba Maal, a Senegalese singer-songwriter, included these lines in his song "Fanta", possibly as an homage to Marti.
