He is also a scholar with a Masters in Medieval and Renaissance English Literature. His thesis drew parallels between the worlds of hip-hop music and literary poetry. After graduating in 2003, Baba began his career as a rap troubadour.

Since 2004 Baba has toured his award-winning hip-hop theatre show, "The Rap Canterbury Tales", to dozens of cities around the world, including two tours of Australia, three critically-acclaimed runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, several college campus tours of the USA, including Harvard, and frequent returns to the UK and Europe. His rap adaptations are now used in hundreds of classrooms around the world.

In 2007, Baba founded the indie record label Lit Fuse Records, and released the debut album "Butterfly Man" from up-and-coming Vancouver singer/songwriter Aaron Nazrul. The lead single "When the Night" was recently featured on network television on 90210, and the video enjoyed Top Ten rotation on Much Music.

In 2008, Baba joined forces with UK BBC Slam Champion MC Dizraeli to form the hip-hop group Mud Sun, and they co-wrote and released two albums, including "The Rebel Cell", a hip-hop play that was one of the biggest critical successes of the Edinburgh Fringe, winning the "Spirit of the Fringe Award".

Baba's latest project, "The Rap Guide to Evolution" won the prestigious Scotsman Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009, and went on to tour the UK and USA, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin.

Baba is currently working with Brighton-based DJ/producer Mr. Simmonds on two new shows (and CDs) for the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe, a sequel to the Evolution show entitled "The Rap Guide to Human Nature" about the science of human behaviour, and a new rap storytelling show, "Rapconteur", which will feature adaptations of Gilgamesh, Beowulf, and the Finnish Kalevala.

When he is not touring, Baba Brinkman resides in Vancouver.

@TheColourSociety2 Those are really great responses that show an enviable amount of self awareness and humility. I am glad you could see that I wasn't attempting to argue. HipHop is a very wide genre (30+ years of music) & i don't know your tastes so it would be tough to say what you would enjoy.There aren't many people making "science songs" as it were.Groups like DeLaSoul, A Tribe Called Quest and The Roots are pretty solid sets that aren't in the gangsta subgenre, there is also "nerdcore" rap

Bryan Robertson, welcome to the world of science and critical thinking. As you get used to your "sea legs" and get used to critically thinking about all that is known through science's peer-review process, and see how well it would (not) apply to religious belief, you will be thankful that you heard Baba Brinkman's music. I often quote his lyrics and link to his videos to help prove a point, especially to my own creationist cousins. :)
My favorite is Off That (Rationalist's Anthem) and second is this rap, Performance, Feedback, Revision, which was a line I often used in my work as a technical writer of work instructions for a department that had many systems and upgrades were plentiful. So, I was constantly revising those instructions. (It's a living.)

Enjoy all of Baba's albums, they are just what the budding Rationalist in you craves.

@menndoj that I did not feel as "though some one who does not enjoy a genre should be the one who dictates the terms of that genre"... Dictate all you want.. No one is stopping you, that is your opinion.. But the other person has there's as well, and no matter how hard you try to talk your way into being the master of the genre dictation, it isn't really up to you but in a way, everyone!

@TeashiaRain I don't know why you are revisiting this honestly. I had a conversation with TheColourSociety about it and it went well. You are just throwing stones from the side lines. I am sorry you don't see why people can get emotional about the arts or how reading some one act like an educational song is somehow superior to the rest of the genre could be a bit offensive. If you feel I overreacted, that is your opinion. I already got what I wanted out of the conversation a month ago.

@menndoj I don't check this crap all the time, this is the first I saw this. Do you really expect everyone to be so involved that they check it often. It took me a month so it is alive and well for me. Regardless, the fact that it was a month ago doesn't change what was said. It is obvious you do all this for some sort of self satisfaction to make yourself feel intelligent, or whatever you are looking for.. SAD! At least you got what you wanted out of your one sided conversation..

What makes other modern genres more adult with a greater "intellectual scope"? It is one thing to not enjoy the sound, but you then go on to claim some sort of intimate knowledge on what the ideal of hip hop is (a valid conversation, for sure, but one that will never end I am afraid). This song is good though and I am glad we have it to comment on at all.

I really don't know where you get such negative opinions about me, but I don't think I will be changing your mind on that topic. Hip hop is NOT spoken word over a beat and if you think that you are wrong and/or a high school english teacher from 1994. This is all a moot point though, as I clearly said that it was a valid conversation and you are attempting to use insult to drive a point that doesn't exist.
