The band began as a ska group but quickly transcended the genre, mixing punk, reggae, rock, swing and jazz influences. They sing in both French and English, sometimes mixing the two in songs. Their third album, Dances of Resistance, was recorded in 2003 and largely has an anti-war theme. In 2009 they launched their latest album La Belle Étoile. Since then they are still on tour all over the world, from their own country France to other countries in Europe, but also to foreign places like Abu Dhabi and New Zealand.

« Comment ça, t’as pas d’oseille,
Bin alors, pourquoi t’es v’nu ? »
On reste groupés, on a nos p’tits réseaux
The lyrics of the song La Cité des gones by Babylon Circus are a commentary on the city of Lyon, called the "pink city," which the singer visits and stays in. The first few verses describe how the singer quickly makes friends with the locals, who show him around the city, despite its unappealing environment, consisting of concrete and metal, polluted by exhaust fumes. The song also sheds light on the paradoxical situation in the city, where, although there is an air of wealth, there is also an abundance of people in need. The singer points out how the immigrants, such as the Yugoslavs, who earn a living polishing car windows, might not feel too attached to the city because of its polluted atmosphere. The apartments provided to the repatriated immigrants are not adequate either, despite being promised otherwise. The song conveys a sense of disappointment with the city's facade of wealth, which does not extend to its residents' everyday lives.
The song's next part is a reflection on how the city's inhabitants perceive outsiders. The singer says that when outsiders inquire about where they are from, they say they are from Rhône-Alpins, but the remark is often met with derision since the city has a dubious reputation. The locals are shown to be unwelcoming, immediately questioning newcomers' purpose and financial status. Despite the harshness, the singer acknowledges that the locals are just as capable of laughter and good humor as anyone else. The lyrics note how most people who come to the city are merely passing through, without any desire to make connections or form relationships, holding tightly onto their bags, waiting for their trains.
The song's final verse is a commentary on how the singer and his friends stick together and create their pockets of joy amidst the harshness of life in the city. The group does not rely on offers of help, preferring to depend on themselves instead. The song also references the city's cultural diversity and how the music scene reflects this, indicating that there is plenty of talent and creativity among the city's people. Overall, the song is a reflection on the disappointment and harshness of city life, but it also highlights the resilience of its people.

J’entendais souvent parler de la ville qu’on dit « rose »
I often heard about the city they call 'pink'
So one day, while passing by, I decided to take a break there
It didn't take long for me to make good friends
With smiles on their faces, they said 'come, let us show you!'
The capital of the Gones is all gray, smelling like gasoline
Nothing but concrete and metal, enough to ruin your life
In the city of the Gones, it exudes wealth
But if you come for charity, you're at the wrong place
Ask the Yugoslav who cleans your windshield
If he wouldn't like to move away from this gray smoke
He gives you his best smile but you're not into the Caucasus
In the hat, not a penny, just a good puff of gas
Ask the repatriated one if he is happy
With what they gave him as an apartment
'It's a very nice place', they said, 'a pure wonder'
With a breathtaking view of the highway of the Sun
To those who ask us where we come from
Quand on descend du camion
When we get off the truck
On leur dit qu’on est « Rhône-Alpins »
We tell them we are 'Rhône-Alpins'
Mais dit comme ça, ça fait con
But said like that sounds stupid
« Ah, ouais, j’y suis passé une fois là-haut,
'Oh yeah, I went up there once,'
C’est pas la top ambiance
It's not the best atmosphere
I was supposed to stay but I wasn't feeling it
J’ai pas tenté ma chance »
I didn't take my chance'
It's true that you have to see the welcome
On t’met tout de suite au jus
They put you in the know right away
« Comment ça, t’as pas d’oseille,
'What do you mean, you don't have any money,'
Bin alors, pourquoi t’es v’nu ? »
'Then why did you come?'
Everyone seems to be frowning
Mais il ne faut pas s’y fier
But you shouldn't be fooled
Here, too, we laugh, but you have to smile first
Ici les gens sont de passage
Here, people are just passing through
Pas le temps de lier connaissance
No time to make acquaintances
Cramponnés à leurs bagages,
Clutching their luggage
Ils attendent leur correspondance
They're waiting for their connection
We stayed, but we're not masochists
On reste groupés, on a nos p’tits réseaux
We stick together, we have our little networks
Given what's proposed to us, we prefer to fend for ourselves
We do lots of little things and we have a great time together
Nothing better for inspiration, stuck in Babylon
It gives us imagination to do things that are successful
There are ideas that grow and they're not just talk
Enough to scare the old bureaucrats marching by

There are punks, there are anarchists who are preparing rebellion
There are lots of little rascals dancing the Mio
