The band started when James Roche heard Doko singing at a pub in Melbourne. Many of their songs are depictions of life as a young single female, though ironically the lyrics are penned by Roche.
They won ARIA Awards in 1998 and 1999.
The band split after the release of their scond album proved less than successful. Tania is now trying to resurrect her career with a new band whilst James has gone into music production.

Walking With Shoes On Fire
Bachelor Girl Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Mercury rising higher
Every step is closer to you
I'm walking with shoes on fire
Has time stopped cold
The moments seem like lifetimes
I crave to hold you
CHORUS
Walking with shoes on fire
Mercury rising higher
Every step is closer to you
I'm walking with shoes on fire
No ache, no cut
Has struck so deeply inside
To see, to touch you
No other piece will satisfy
CHORUS
Walking with shoes on fire
Fever is rising higher
Every step is closer to you
I'm walking with shoes on fire
I'm outside, lost in the dark night
An orphan who longs to come home
You draw me, capture and claim me
More than I've ever known
CHORUS
Walking with shoes on fire
Mercury rising higher
Every step is closer to you
I'm walking with shoes on fire
The lyrics to Bachelor Girl's song Walking With Shoes On Fire depict a powerful and intense desire for someone they deeply love. The metaphorical use of "walking with shoes on fire" and "mercury rising higher" illustrates the extent of their longing and passion for this person. Every step they take brings them closer to the person they desire, and their craving to hold them is unrelenting. The lyrics suggest that time has stopped, and every moment without this person feels like a lifetime.
Furthermore, the lyrics also describe how nothing else can fill their mind or satisfy them until they can see and touch the person they love. The pain caused by not being with this person is as deep as any ache or cut. The chorus repeats the powerful metaphor of walking with shoes on fire, emphasizing the intensity of their emotions, with the fever rising higher every step they take. The song concludes with the idea that the person they love has captured and claimed them, more than anything they have ever known.
