Lose sight of yourself
Too old to go out, too young to homebody
When there’s no one at home
Don’t wanna resent coupledom
Got to look inwards first, before I blame
There’s gotta be some reason why I can’t tame myself
Enough to be to good partner
Saw your ex-lady at the gym, she looked so tired
Wait
Don’t hate
Walk straight
It’s grace that will pull you through this
Hey, look straight, walk straight, don’t lose faith
It’s grace that will get you through this
Lead these angels into denial
Do right for yourself
Still need to call out
I’m something to somebody
You can’t leave it alone
Don’t want to need you like I do
Gotta check myself first, before I blame
There’s gotta be some reason why I can’t tame myself
Enough to be a good partner
Or see clear to reciprocate when someone’s good to me
Saw your ex-lady at the gym, she looked so tired
Wait
Don’t hate
Walk straight
It’s grace that will pull you through this
Hey, look straight
Bend back
They’ll stack the odds against you
Hey, don’t’ wait, walk straight, lose faith
It’s grace will get you through this
I won’t say it again
The lyrics to "Wait" by Bad Boy Bill represent a deep reflection on the struggles of being in a relationship, particularly when one is trying to balance their own needs with the needs of their partner. The verses focus on the internal dialogue of the singer, who is wrestling with their own insecurities and flaws, and is grappling with the difficulty of being transparent and communicative in a romantic partnership. One of the standout lines in the song is "Too old to go out, too young to homebody," which speaks to the liminal space that many people find themselves in as they transition from young adulthood into more settled and stable stages of life.
The chorus of the song is an encouraging and uplifting call to persevere in the face of difficulties. The repeated refrain of "Wait, don't hate, walk straight" emphasizes the importance of staying composed and level-headed, even in the midst of emotional turmoil. The use of the word "grace" also conveys a sense of hope and faith in something bigger than oneself, and encourages the listener to trust in a force greater than their own limited capacity.
Overall, the lyrics to "Wait" are an insightful and introspective exploration of the complexities of human relationships, and offer a message of hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
