Repossession
Bad Breeding Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pitch them your perfect vision of an idyllic scene
and in the plastic catch all you planned for put to slaughter
Paraded on a sanction, pushed out of a home
Dignity shoved up against the cut

You've had it once before
and they'll take it all again
Sketch out the dream
Watch it stripped clean

Nothing sacred, always borrowed
now progress runs sharp as a knife

Abjection come full circle
in a race to the bottom we all know who wins

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Repossession" by Bad Breeding speak of the relentless cycle of capitalism and how it ruins the lives of the working class. The opening lines suggest that society encourages people to create a 'perfect vision' of their lives, only to have it be destroyed by the 'plastic catch', representing the consumerist culture that is designed to fail the working class. The subsequent lines suggest how society can sanction and disregard the homeless population, with their dignity cast aside as well.

The lines "You've had it once before/ and they'll take it all again/ Sketch out the dream/ Watch it stripped clean" are reflective of the brutal cycle of capitalism where the working class is continuously exploited by employers so they can continue to maintain a lifestyle of luxury, while the working class has everything taken from them. The lyric, "Nothing sacred, always borrowed/ now progress runs sharp as a knife/ Abjection come full circle/ in a race to the bottom we all know who wins" conveys the idea that the ruling class treats everything that the working class values, including dignity and basic amenities, as disposable resources. The system leads to an abject lifestyle that creates competition for resources, and the ruling class remains at the top of the hierarchy.
