My Girl Lollipop
Bad Manners Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You are as sweet as candy, you are my sugar dandy,
Oh, oh, my girl lollipop, never ever leave me,
Because it would grieve me, my heart told me so.
I love you, I love you, I love you so,
And I don't want you to know,
I need you, I need you, I need you so,
But I'll never let you go.
You set my world on fire, you are my one desire,
Yeah, My Girl Lollipop.
I love you, I love you, I love you so,
And I don't want you to know,
I need you, I need you, I need you so,
But I'll never let you go.
My Girl Lollipop, you make my heart go giddy up,
You are as sweet as Gandhi, you are my sugar dandy,
Eh, My Girl Lollipop.
I love you, I love you, I love you so,
And I don't want you to know,
I need you, I need you, I need you so,
But I'll never let you go.
My Girl Lollipop, you make my heart go giddy up,
You set my world on fire, you are my one desire,
Yeah, My Girl Lollipop, My Girl Lollipop,
My Girl Lollipop, My Girl Lollipop,
My Girl Lollipop, oh little Lollipop.
The lyrics of Bad Manners’ song “My Girl Lollipop” express a sweet and simple love for a girl who is as sweet as candy and sets the singer's heart on fire. Describing her as his “sugar dandy” and comparing her to Gandhi, the singer vows never to let her go, declaring “you make my heart go giddy up”. The repetition of “I love you, I need you” echoes the simplicity and sincerity of the singer's love. The chorus of “My Girl Lollipop” is both memorable and catchy, with the infectious melody of the song adding to its appeal.
While the lyrics of the song express a straightforward sentiment, there are some interesting interpretations that can be made. The reference to Gandhi, for example, may hint at the idea of love being a force for change in the world, as Gandhi was a leader of a peaceful revolution. The metaphor of the girl as a lollipop could also suggest that she is an object to be consumed, rather than a person with her own desires and agency.
