1. Bad News are an British, spoof rock band, created for the Channel 4 television series The Comic Strip Presents.... Its members are Vim Fuego [Alan Metcalfe], vocals and lead guitar (played by Adrian Edmondson); Den Dennis, rhythm guitar (Nigel Planer); Colin Grigson, bass (Rik Mayall); and Spider Webb, drums (Peter Richardson).
Their first appearance was in 1983, in the first series of The Comic Strip Presents... (written by Edmondson, and produced by Michael White/Comic Strip Productions). The episode, Bad News Tour, took the form of a spoof rockumentary, in which the incompetent band is followed on tour by an almost equally incompetent documentary crew.
Coincidentally, it was in production at the same time as the similar film 'This Is Spinal Tap', which was released the following year.
The band made numerous promotional TV appearances including Channel 4's now iconic 80's music show 'The Tube' and the BBC's primetime talkshow 'Wogan'.
They initially released a self-titled album, consisting of thrashy rock songs interspersed with arguments amongst the band. Brian May of Queen produced the album, which included a cover of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody".
They also played a tour of theatres, universities and colleges as well as playing Reading Festival in 1987.They also had a suitably bad opening set at the Monsters of Rock festival at Castle Donington. This performance was featured in a second Comic Strip film, More Bad News, broadcast in 1988.

Because we are bad news
We're very metal
We got nothing to lose
So let me hear you say hey
Hey hey bad news
(Fuck off bad news)
(Fuck off bad news)
(Fuck off bad news)
Hey hey bad news
(Fuck off bad news)
Hey your're looking good
Stop throwing things!
We're all having fun!
You gotta kick away the blues
So sing hey hey bad news!
Hey hey bad news
(Fuck off bad news)
(Fuck off bad news)
Hey hey bad news
(Fuck off bad news)
Hey hey
(Fuck off bad news)
No! we won't go
This is metal
And we are never gonna die, never gonna die, never gonna die
We're so heavy, heavy metal
And we are never gonna die, never gonna die, never gonna die
(Fuck off bad news)
(Fuck off bad news)
(Fuck off bad news)
(Fuck off bad news)
Are you ready to rock?
Are you ready to roll?
Oh god this is stupid
This happens at every fucking gig we play
Just sing, hey hey bad news!
(Fuck off bad news)
(Fuck off bad news)
(Fuck off bad news)
(Fuck off bad news)
The lyrics to Bad News's song "Hey Hey Bad News" are a parody of the heavy metal genre. The song begins with the classic rock phrase "Are you ready to rock?" which sets the tone for the rest of the song. The band describes themselves as "very metal" and having "nothing to lose." They encourage the audience to chant "hey hey bad news," and respond with the phrase "fuck off bad news." This interaction with the audience is a common technique used in heavy metal concerts to create a sense of unity and excitement.
The second verse of the song continues with the band's interaction with the crowd. They compliment an audience member's appearance and remind them to stop throwing things. They emphasize the importance of having fun and "kicking away the blues" which is a common theme in heavy metal. The chorus repeats the phrase "hey hey bad news" and encourages the audience to chant "fuck off bad news" in response.
The final verse of the song is a satire of heavy metal's perceived indestructibility. The band declares that they will never die and are "so heavy, heavy metal." The song ends with the same call and response from the chorus, reminding the audience to just sing and have fun.
