Transpose was recorded in the studio with producer Eric Palmquist (The Mars Volta, Wavves, Trash Talk) and serves as a prelude to the band’s debut full-length slated for 2014. “The writing and recording process is always exciting, because it’s constantly changing and unique to each song. Inspiration comes and goes as it pleases, so a night when a song gets written is a very good night,” says Christo. Comprised of four tracks, Transpose flows effortlessly from start to finish showcasing the band’s stadium ready anthems and undeniably catchy hooks. “Music has the ability to evoke certain feelings in people, a way that not much else can. The pairing of words and sounds can be an extremely powerful tool, when done right. I think the ultimate goal for this band is to make music that causes people to really feel something.”
Aside from writing a record, Bad Suns’ 2013 was a busy one, complete with multiple CMJ showcases as well as sharing the stage with the likes of The 1975 and Vaccines with no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Do the words I scream mean anything?
But no, I can't hear a thing
Well, maybe it's best I give up
I don't wanna be all alone and defeated
It pains me to speak these words, but I mean it
I mean no harm, what have I become?
I know I'm wrong, but when you tell me
Things get worse and I wanna change
I don't wanna be all alone and defeated
Who can I be besides me? 'Cause I hate it
I don't wanna be left alone, uncompleted, no
I don't wanna be all alone and defeated, no
Oh, can you hear me?
Do the words I scream mean anything?
But no, I can't hear a thing
Well, maybe it's best I give up
I don't wanna be all alone and defeated
Who can I be besides me? 'Cause I hate it
I don't wanna be left alone, uncompleted, no
I don't wanna be all alone and defeated
I don't wanna be all alone and defeated
Who can I be besides me? 'Cause I hate it
And it's not your fault, and I know I've been conceited
But I don't wanna be all alone and defeated
The lyrics to Bad Suns’ song Defeated express feelings of isolation, frustration with oneself, and a desire for change. The repeated question, “Oh, can you hear me?” represents the singer’s sense of being unheard and ignored, even when they are screaming out for help. The line “I don't wanna be all alone and defeated” conveys a strong feeling of loneliness and a sense of being defeated or hopeless. The singer is lamenting the fact that they are stuck in this negative mindset and feel unable to break free from it.
The song also touches on the theme of self-acceptance, with the line “Who can I be besides me? ‘Cause I hate it.” The singer is struggling with their own identity and is longing to be someone else, but at the same time recognizes the importance of self-love and acceptance. The chorus ends with the phrase “But I don't wanna be all alone and defeated” which speaks to the need for connection and support, even in the midst of personal struggles.
Overall, this song portrays the complexities of the human experience and the desire for companionship and self-improvement, even in the face of difficulties.
