Holy night
All is calm
All is bright
Round yon Virgin
Mother and child
Holy infant
So tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night
Holy night
Round thy head
Are radiant light
Lovely boy with golden hair
Parents guard thee with tender care
Sleep now darling one sleep
Sleep now darling one sleep
The song Silent Night Holy Night by Band Aid is a Christmas carol that has become a holiday classic. The lyrics bring a sense of peace and tranquility as they describe the birth of Jesus Christ. The first stanza sets the scene for the holy night, describing the calm and bright atmosphere as the virgin mother Mary and her child are watching over the world. The second stanza describes the radiance of light around the child's head and the loving care his parents are providing him. The lyrics derive from German Roman Catholic priest Joseph Mohr in 1816, who composed the melody with his friend Franz Xaver Gruber later.
The lyrics of Silent Night Holy Night go beyond the nativity story and convey the idea of keeping the faith and finding comfort in prayer. It expresses the idea that in the midst of chaos, there is still peace to be found. The carol has been translated into hundreds of languages, making it a truly global song. The song's gentleness and simplicity continue to make it a popular choice for religious and secular holiday events.
