He spent his childhood in Central Manatí and in the late 1920's he moved to Havana to become part of Graciano Gomez' musical group.
In 1935, he formed part of the Antonio Maria Romeu Orchestra as a voice soloist, being a Danzones, Sones and Boleros interpreter for more than five decades. With this orchestra, Diez was accompanied at shows and recording sessions, even after Romeo's death, until the eighties.
Alongside his work in the orchestra Romeu, founded the Select Quartet, with whom he conducted performances of the bohemian cabaret of Havana in the forties.
Towards the end of his career, he decided to disband the orchestra that accompanied him in his later years, due to personal friction among musicians. Barbarito Diez died in Havana on May 6, 1995 as a result of diabetes mellitus.

Barbarito Diez Lyrics

Aunque tu, has muerto todas mis ilusiones
Tu me quieres dejar, yo no quiero sufrir
Contigo me voy mi santa aunque me custe morir
The lyrics of Barbarito Diez's song "Lagrimas Negras" tell a story of heartbreak and deep emotional pain. The singer addresses someone who has abandoned him, who has killed all of his hopes and dreams, and yet he cannot bring himself to curse the person. Instead, in his dreams, he blesses them. He suffers tremendously from their departure, feeling a deep and painful sense of loss. He cries tears that are black like his life without them. Despite their desire to leave, the singer states that he cannot bear to live without them because his purpose is to love and cherish them for the rest of his life. He implores them to stay with him, promising to go with them even if it means his own death.
The lyrics are poignant and heartfelt, expressing the intense emotions of heartbreak, loss, and the need for love. The use of the color black in the phrase "lagrimas negras" (black tears) is a powerful metaphor for the darkness and hopelessness felt by the singer. The repetition of the phrase "contigo me voy mi santa" (with you, my saint, I'll go) emphasizes the singer's need for their love and companionship, even if it means sacrificing everything else.
