Barbra Streisand has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with Columbia Records. Her early works in the 1960s (her debut The Barbra Streisand Album which won two Grammy Awards in 1963, followed by The Second Barbra Streisand Album, The Third Album, My Name Is Barbra, etc.) are considered classic renditions of theater and nightclub standards, including her version of Happy Days Are Here Again. Beginning with My Name Is Barbra, her albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials.
Starting in 1969, Streisand tackled contemporary songwriters; like many talented singers of the day, she found herself a fish out of water in attempts to tackle rock, but her vocal talents prevailed and she gained newfound success with the pop and ballad-oriented Richard Perry-produced album Stoney End in 1971. The title track, written by Laura Nyro, was a big hit for Streisand.
Streisand's 1980 album, Guilty featured the songwriting, production and vocal talents of Barry Gibb and was the best-selling album of her recording career. During the 1970s, she was also highly prominent in the pop charts, with number-one records like The Way We Were, Evergreen, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (her duet with Donna Summer), and Woman In Love; some of these came from soundtracks of her films. She recently took part in supporting Haiti in singing "We are the World 25th anniversary.
When the 1970s ended, Streisand was named the most successful female singer in the U.S. - only Elvis Presley and The Beatles having sold more albums. [1]
[1] In 1982, New York Times music critic Stephen Holden wrote that Streisand was "the most influential mainstream American pop singer since Frank Sinatra."

Sing out loud; sing out strong
Sing of good things not bad
Sing of happy not sad
Sing, sing a song
Make it simple to last your whole life long
Don't worry that it's not good enough
For anyone else to hear
La, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la...
Nobody can tell you
There's only one song worth singing
They may try and sell ya
Cause it hangs 'em up
To see someone like you
You've gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind of music
Even if nobody else sings along
La, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la...
Sing, sing a song
(Sing a song)
Sing out loud (sing out loud)
Sing out strong (sing out strong)
Sing of good things not bad!
Sing of happy, not sad
Sing, sing a song
Make it simple to last your whole life long
Don't worry that it's not good enough
For anyone else to hear
You just sing
Sing
Just sing
Even if nobody else sings along
You just sing
You just sing
Sing your song!
La, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la...
Barbra Streisand's song "Sing / Make Your Own Kind of Music" is all about the power of music and the joy it brings. The lyrics encourage listeners to sing out loud and strong, and to focus on the good and happy things in life, rather than dwelling on the bad and sad. The song emphasizes the importance of making music for oneself, rather than worrying about whether others will like it or not.
The first verse encourages listeners to simply sing a song and make it last their whole life long. The lyrics acknowledge that the song might not be considered "good enough" by others, but that it's important to sing it anyway. The chorus of the song emphasizes the idea that each person should make their own kind of music, sing their own special song, and not worry about whether or not others are singing along.
The second verse acknowledges that some people may try to sell you on the idea that there is only one song worth singing, but the lyrics encourage listeners to ignore this and make their own music anyway. The song concludes with a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the importance of finding joy in making music for oneself.
Overall, "Sing / Make Your Own Kind of Music" is a beautiful tribute to the power of music and the importance of self-expression. The lyrics encourage listeners to find their own voice and to embrace their own unique style, rather than conforming to the expectations of others.
