Saturday mornings were musical at my house. No school, no work. I can't remember what year it was, but I was lying in bed one Saturday morning when the music woke me up. In the 60s and 70s I couldn't stand the Bee Gees - I don't know why. However, as the years rolled on I grew to really appreciate their sound and music. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded by anyone.

This is one of my favorite songs. Amusingly, I have heard people on YouTube who think the Bee Gees were "covering" an Al Green song! The Bee Gees were not covering the song, which was written by Barry and Robin Gibb in August 1970, after the Gibb brothers had reunited following a break-up. Maurice Gibb helped "finish" the song, which was initially credited to Barry and Robin, but later to all Maurice as well. This is how Barry recounted the events: "Robin came to my place and that afternoon we wrote 'How Can You Mend a Broken Heart' and that obviously was a link to us coming back together. We called Maurice, finished the song, went to the studio and once again, with only 'Broken Heart' as a basic structure, we went in to the studio with that and an idea for 'Lonely Days', and those two songs were recorded that night." It takes real talent to write such a great song in a day, and then toss in another great song like "Lonely Days" with a bit of extra studio time! It is 3:00 am,sleep will not come, l lost my youngest son Joey last year on Mother's day to a horrific accident. A tree that had been hit by lightning fell through the cab of his truck killing him on impact. I am so broken and I don't know why this happened, and l don't know how to live without him. There is not a band, a group, another trio... another anything that can touch what the brothers Gibb, the BeeGee's, left us to listen to for eternity. There is not one. Maybe george Micheal.. but even George couldn't stop the rock n roll grim reaper from taking his soul. These 3 men made the world go around to me. I learned to sing because they were my only teacher. I used to sit in my room late at night in northern michigan and the chicago radio station WLS would have a faint signal that would barely reach my little radio that I always had on to go to sleep with... I would wait to hear this song.. i would sit and wait ... and then sing when it played... all alone in my room... just me and my imagination of singing all my life long. Now, Ive toured the world with a number of bands. One is TSO. U either recognize the initials or u don't. I would warm up with my bass player Dave Z and another singer and we would sing this song in every arena bathroom we stopped at. The memories of one song can lead u to a wonderful place for without music there would be nothing.. but silence. Imagine not having music. Imagine it... it's hard to not ... an when I die.. I pray to what ever power there is out there that I can always hear my favorite songs forever in my heart.

I have heard him grieve about being the only one left of 4 boys and his mother was still alive and was in constant grief. Makes you wonder if Andy was the lucky one going out early and on top while the rest played 2nd fiddle to Barry so to speak. Won't ever be another group like them, especially at their peak they had it all.

In the beginning of the song I found Barry Gibbs lyrics so silly, after hearing the song entirely I really like it. R. I. P. Andy, Maurice and Robin Gibb you three are truly missed. The 4 of you made perfect music. I miss the 70's, and the 80's.
