With his partner and wife, Cynthia Weil, they operate a publishing company called Dyad Music. His first hit as a writer was "She Say (Oom Dooby Doom)," which was a top twenty song for The Diamonds in 1959. Mann had co-written the song with Gerry Goffin. Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil met when they were both staff songwriters, they were married in 1961. Through the late 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, Mann came up with songs such as "Sometimes When We Touch" and movie scores such as that for I Never Sang for My Father. Weil co-wrote "He's So Shy" with Tom Snow for The Pointer Sisters and worked on projects with Lionel Richie.

In 1961, they wrote and Mann sang a novelty song that made the Top 10 with "Who Put The Bomp", which parodied the nonsense words of the then-recently popular doo wop songs.

In 1987, he was inducted with his wife into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

This song has always made me happy to hear. As a matter of fact around the summer of 1961 and going to the 2nd
grade in Columbus, Ohio, I out right mourned when it stopped being played on the radio. Everything. The harmonizing,

Being born to Babyboomer's and listening to this music through out my growing up and such. I have a deep found and enduring love for this song. My parents knew what quality was and they wanted me to know what good quality is and how to recognize it. They made sure that I knew what actual talent was even. Even more so, my High School music teacher was also key in teaching me what real music is supposed to sound like as well. And not some people using all these devises and such to make them sound appealing when they sound like a creature that's screaming as they are being raped and mutilated and killed very slowly while being weirded out.

This guy, Barry Mann, went on to write some of the most beautiful melodies of our time, and with his lyricist wife, Cynthia Weill, wrote some of the great, monster hit pop songs of our time. OHOHO! I finally found this song!

Years ago, on my sixth birthday, my friend’s mother gave me a donkey. A donkey from Shrek. It looked like a regular stuffed animal, but it was actually completely mechanical inside. I pressed a button (on his hoof) and it swayed from side to side and sang this song, opening a mechanical mouth. For years it was my favorite toy, (tho I have no idea what the song was about) but one day it started to sing badly and even changing the batteries didn’t helped. But I didn’t have powers to throw it away. So I keep it. And so, today (fourteen years later) my parents found it on the cupboard, turned it on and it miraculously(!!!) sang, as it did the first time on my birthday many years ago! The song he sings is a little faster than the original, but still very cool.

This song is very dear to my heart :)
