Open Your Eyes
Because They Can Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Into a place I no longer want to be.
I’m sick of gasping
For air I’m trying to breathe.
I can sense the distance,
It’s written right through the sheets.
But I’m tired of holding on to this part of me.
And tell me is it worth the time to open mine?
Tell me I’m not wasting time.
You’ve made up your mind,
What you’ll find is it’s the same inside,
Open your eyes.
And you say there’s shame where I hang my head
But you can’t name where you place your neck.
The guillotine’s not the only thing
You gotta watch out for me instead.
And I know you’re not listening,
But trust me it was all worthwhile.
Yeah we learnt a few things
But you caught me in denial.
So open your eyes
And tell me is it worth the time to open mine?
Tell me I’m not wasting time.
You’ve made up your mind,
What you’ll find is it’s the same inside,
I’m not waiting for the perfect moment,
But what you’ll find it’s alright, it’s alright.
So open your eyes
And tell me is it worth the time to open mine?
Tell me I’m not wasting time.
You’ve made up your mind,
What you’ll find..
So open your eyes
And tell me is it worth the time to open mine?
Tell me I’m not wasting time.
You’ve made up your mind,
What you’ll find is it’s the same inside.
The lyrics to Because They Can's song Open Your Eyes depict a person who feels like they are slipping into a place they no longer want to be. They are tired of gasping for air and trying to hold on to a part of themselves that no longer serves them. They can sense the distance between themselves and another person, and they want them to open their eyes and see that they are not wasting their time. The song's lyrics are a call for the other person to acknowledge the pain they are causing and to take action to make things better.
The lyrics also touch on the idea of shame and denial. The person singing the song feels like they are being judged by the other person, who cannot name where they themselves place their neck. The guillotine is mentioned, which could be a metaphor for the consequences of their actions. The person singing the song has learned a few things from their experiences but finds themselves caught in denial. They are not waiting for the perfect moment, but want the other person to open their eyes and see that they are worth the effort.
Overall, the lyrics of Open Your Eyes are about taking responsibility for one's actions and acknowledging the pain they may cause to others. The song is a call to action for both parties to open their eyes and see each other for who they really are.

All this feels strange and untrue
And I won't waste a minute without you
My bones ache, my skin feels cold
And I'm getting so tired and so old
The anger swells in my guts
And I won't feel these slices and cuts
I want so much to open your eyes
'Cause I need you to look into mine
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Get up, get out, get away from these liars
'Cause they don't get your soul or your fire
Take my hand, knot your fingers through mine
And we'll walk from this dark room for the last time
Every minute from this minute now
We can do what we like anywhere
I want so much to open your eyes
'Cause I need you to look into mine
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes

ele pudesse.
