World Without You
Belinda Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If there was no sunshine
I could learn to live with the rain
Darling, if I had to
I could trade pleasure for pain

I could live without food or money
Wouldn't be so har to do
And if the stars fell down from the sky
Baby, I would make it through

But in a world without you
Where would I be?
Where would I be without you, babe?
(Where would I be without you, babe?)
I couldn't breathe without you, babe
(I couldn't breathe)

In a world without you
Where would I be?
Where would I be without you, babe?
(Where would I be without you, babe?)
I couldn't breathe without you, babe
(I couldn't breathe) oh

Wouldn't be no music
No reason to laugh, no reason to smile
Couldn't call it living
With nothing to make the living worthwhile

You know that it would all seem worthless
If you weren't here with me
I could have the world in my hands
But I wouldn't have a thing

'Cause in a world without you
Where would I be?
Where would I be without you, babe?
(Where would I be without you, babe?)
I couldn't breathe without you, babe
(I couldn't breathe)

In a world without you
Where would I be?
Where would I be without you, babe?
(Where would I be without you, babe?)
I couldn't breathe without you, babe
(I couldn't breathe) oh

In a world without you

Baby, it would all seem worthless
If you weren't with me
And I could have the world in my hands
But I wouldn't have a thing

'Cause in a world without you
Where would I be?
Where would I be without you, babe?
(Where would I be without you, babe?)
I couldn't breathe without you, baby
(I couldn't breathe)

In a world without you
Where would I be? (Where would I be without you, baby?)
(Where would I be without you, babe?)
I couldn't live, I couldn't live
(I couldn't breathe)

In a world without you
Where would I be? (Where would I be without you, baby?)
(Where would I be without you, babe?)
I couldn't live, I couldn't live
(I couldn't breathe)

In a world without you
Where would I be? (Where would I be without you, baby?)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "World Without You" by Belinda Carlisle express the sentiment that the singer would be able to handle any hardships or challenges life throws her way, as long as she has her lover by her side. She describes how she could cope with rain instead of sunshine, pain instead of pleasure, and survive without food or money. However, the absence of her partner would make it all seem worthless, and she wouldn't be able to breathe or live without them. She acknowledges that there would be no music, laughter, or joy in her life, and nothing would make living worthwhile without her significant other.

The lines, "I could have the world in my hands, but I wouldn't have a thing," demonstrate the value that the singer places on her love and the importance it holds in her life. The overall message conveyed by the lyrics is that love is the most essential thing in life, and it makes all of the other things bearable.

What really gets to me is even though i think this is one of the most beautiful and incredibly well written songs i have ever heared in my 55 years of life on earth i cannot believe that up until today there are 7 people who have given a thumbs down to this song. whoever they are i really hope that they are able to find their missing heart sometime in the future.
