Triggering Back
Benoît Pioulard Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Half a statue carved in ochre
Let's we forget our will is a broken one, oh honey
Deep resonation signs our declension
Some hesitation bears ready mention
Turn off the station to multiply the tension, darling
Laundry lists and long promenades
With haunting kisses and passing the days, honeychild
Signed and sealed and in this sound we hear the memory dying
Wondering if we paid attention
Would we have seen our proper ascension day
Oh there's no way
"Triggering Back" is a song that seems to be about remembering a past relationship and the difficulties of letting go. The opening lines suggest that the singer and their partner were faced with some kind of challenge together, and the singer may have been the one to come out on top: "letting go the days we knew when others fell before you." The metaphor of half a statue carved in ochre is striking, suggesting that something that was once whole is now incomplete and possibly damaged. The singer acknowledges that their will is also broken, which may explain why they are having trouble moving on.
The chorus seems to reflect on the struggle to let go of the past, even when doing so would be for the best: "deep resonation signs our declension / some hesitation bears ready mention." The singer suggests that turning off the "station," or perhaps the source of their memories, might help them move on: "turn off the station to multiply the tension." However, there is a sense of ambiguity here, as the singer addresses their partner as "darling," suggesting that they may still be holding onto some feelings for this person.
The second verse seems to delve further into the singer's feelings for their partner. They "adore" their partner's quirks, like laundry lists and long promenades, and cherish the time they spent together: "with haunting kisses and passing the days, honeychild." However, there is a sense of finality that permeates this verse, with the lines "signed and sealed and in this sound we hear the memory dying / wondering if we paid attention / would we have seen our proper ascension day / oh there's no way." The singer seems resigned to the fact that the relationship is over, and perhaps reflects on missed opportunities.

I remember hearing this over a decade ago when I was feeling particularly alone and blue. And in that moment it felt okay to feel that way.

it has a wonderful floaty sound, i don't know if anyones noticed? what i mean is, and this is especially noticable when you listen to it through headphones, that the instruments and vocals seem to quickly flicker from the left ear to the right ear, almost as if they're floating over each other? Or is that just how the songs played ? :s
