Let me start out by saying I know this is an old video, I am new to the gun arena, and when I saw the NEOS I bought it because I thought it looked bad ass! I get a lot of great information and enjoyment from watching you and hickok45, and I base 99% of my purchases on the reviews I watch from the two of you. I was at the local gun shop picking up a Walther P22 for the Mrs. and saw the NEOS and added it to the cart as well, came home watched your video then went out and shot the pistol and thought to myself "aww man what have I done". There was something about the trigger that just wasn't right, I could pull it to the point where I couldn't pull it any further, but with a little more pressure the striker would release and the gun would fire. I watched a video on how to disassemble it, took it apart and studied how the striker interacted with the trigger release. I could feel a rough edge on the striker, sort of like maybe Beretta doesn't run them over a debur or something. I took a small file to the striker, removed the rough edge that the tigger release slides across took the tips off the corners, and man what a difference. The trigger is very smooth now, I can't help but wonder if they are all made that way. When you said this gun would teach you trigger control, I could see why. If your friend still has it please pass on this bit of information to them. If you want, I can take some pictures and send to you, or if anyone else is interested, leave a comment and I will be more than happy to show you what I did.

Good video. Honest. I did the trigger on mine, which is A 6 inch version and it shoots very nicely. The trigger pull is measured at 2.5 pounds, which seems to be a nice pull and A good break. I've put tens of thousands of rounds through it so far and it has been very reliable and nicely accurate.

Hey 22plinkster, hello from New Zealand. Love your channel. I shoot the 87 target model which is awesome (would love to see you review one) but learnt how to shoot with a neos 6 inch model. Both are good quality guns. Keep up the great work mate!

Great video. I have a MKI from the mid '70's that is a nail driver. I have been looking at the 22A and the MKIII to use at a steel match sometime for fun. I would be interested in a presentation on the 22A and which one of the many fine .22's you might recommend for that purpose.

Ive had a Neos for quite awhile and after seeing this video I started wondering about it so I pulled the gun apart and found out why the trigger is mushy... as the sear drops down, it actually pulls the firing pin down with it causing the long draw and sudden release.... if the firing pin was secured better you would see a sharper release.

Bought one for my wife for valentines day as her first gun. she loves it lol. I'm not too fond of the mag release but the sights came from the factory set up great. Its a tack driver at 15 yards, and split a card at 10 yards

I just gave the 6" barrel (blued) version to my wife for Christmas. She literally opened the gift an hour ago. Your video reinforced my decision to buy this gun. The trigger comments will make me pay attention to it the next time we go to the range.
This gun is appropriate for her, if a little big in her hand. She likes the look, since she isn't so influenced by convention.
I do wish you would have gone over the features of the gun a bit more in depth to reinforce the instruction manual. I haven't looked to see what the gear item, above and ahead of the trigger, is for.
I do think she'll be happy with it, for a good long while. And, it'll beat her up a lot less than my NEF .45-70!

I have one as my beginner plinker. Later years I found myself a discontinued 7.5" barrel for it. It's a great plinker all around. My biggest complain is the sight too large which make longer distance shooting difficult. That might explain why most shooter has a red dot on it.

My 6" neos deluxe is a good shooter, very finicky on ammo brand when shooting groups but feeds everything including aguala sss loads. My biggest complaint is it doesn't fit any holsters that I have found. The rail gets in the way

I just bought a new 6" barrel version and fixed the trigger before I ever fired it.
It had a lot of creep and broke at about 8/10Lbs.
It now has very little creep and breaks at 3.8Lbs.
It has a quick acquisition rear site that I don't like, or the front site could be wider to match the opening in the rear site. Beretta used red lock tight on the adjustment screws for elevation and windage on the rear site. (What were they thinking?)
It's an easy cheep fix to made the gun shoot great and it fires anything so far

Personally, I like the looks of the thing, and that rail looks like it would be a plus. But hearing about the mushy trigger...hmm, not sure. I'd love to see the comparison, as well.

I agree. The stationary rail for optics and the space-age look to it really appeal to me, especially at $350. I'll definitely look into this gun if I'm ever in the market.

I held one of those in a gun store and did not like the way it felt in my hand, went with the Browning Buckmark and love it, it is very accurate and feels great in the hand, it has a very crisp trigger.

I love Beretta - they make great guns and are very innovative. Having said that, I hate this pistol. It does remind me of the S&W 22A - also had one of those and hated it too. I think a lot of people (me included) probably come at both these guns not liking them based on their looks even before they shoot them. But then you shoot them and they don't change your mind.

I would like to see the comparison. I have an older 7" Neos, and it's worth noting that there is a trigger fix using a spring from a bic lighter that improves the pull drastically. For me the biggest flaw of the pistol are the sights. I am not a fan of red dots either, but I found the sights so large that accurate shooting was impossible.

The trigger reset tension sucks, the safety pokes my knuckle, and the grip angle is pretty extreme but for the price this is the best .22 out there. I picked my 6" up for $220 new 6 years ago. It's far more reliable than my 22/45 lite and just as accurate. Not to mention I had to buy aftermarket parts for the 22/45 just to be able to release the slide by pulling it back and the ability to shoot without a mag inserted which you can do with the Neos stock. My 22/45 is decked out in TK parts, target trigger and red dot but I still love my Neos more. WAY easier to take down as well. I highly recommend one if it fits your hand alright.

good Review. I bought the 6 inch barrel and it is fun to shoot. Very well made it apears. Yes it does look space age but it's solid for the money. Mags are very well made and available too as opposed to S&W. Comparison would be fantastic. thanks

QUIRKY looking gun. I think a Ruger 22/45, with the mag disconnect removec, is the best little .22 pistol you can buy. I also like my S.R. 22, but I cant shoot it as well as I can the .22/45. Geat vid as usual.

This seems a little more involved then just a first pistol. I would say the Ruger SR22 or the Walter P22 (not the target model) are good first pistols as they can be used on the range or in the field as a backpacking gun. The Neos to me is a decent budget target pistol. A way to see it you like league 22 target shooting before you commit serious money to something like an S&W Model 41 (or something even pricier).

I have the same gun, but mine is 6" barrel. Alot of fun to shoot. I also have the carbine conversion kit as well. Wasn't easy to get ahold of. I dont use red dots. I do have a 3x9x40 scope on the carbine to shoot out to 200+ yards for small game hunting.

I have several .22s including the Neos. My .02 worth: The Neos is a good gun - as a shooter. If you want to walk around the woods and plink at cans or even do a little hunting with it the Neos is fine. The Neos is OK for target shooting, but there are much better guns out there for cutting out the bullseye. It looks a little odd (if I'm not mistaken this is actually a Giugiaro design), but it feels good in the hand. The mag release is nice once you get used to it. It is a lightly built gun and would work well as a pack gun. It does not have the substantial feel of the Ruger MK series guns or the Buckmark, but then it is also $50 to $100 less expensive so you really wouldn't expect it to. As Plinkster mentioned the trigger is kind of meh..... The front sight blade could also stand to be a good bit narrower. Mine has been utterly reliable through thousands or rounds. Not a bad gun to have in the cabinet. Not a bad gun to start with. Not really competition for the better guns either.

I have one in black and just got the two toned. I love my black one because it has a laser on it! I like the newest one because it was only $250! I use this one as my primary home defense and protection from Grizzly Bears when I hike in Alaska. LOL! Seriously, it's great for practice and plinking! Cheers!

The original trigger was good. They had a couple of drop fires and revamped the trigger after that. As we all know anything a lawyer is involved with has bad results. What the did was increase the depth of the cut into the firing pin and put a angle on it. If you watch the firing pin as you pull the trigger you will see it push backwards as it traverses this angle. The machining was also very rough and you can feel the tooling marks in the creep. I felt three distinctive "steps" in mine and when I looked at the firing pin under magnification you could see three cuts that corresponded to what I felt I am not advocating or recommending the next statement. I got mine and very carefully and minimally filed the firing pin where it contacts the sear. I then polished the surface. It improved the trigger dramatically. I am going to cut the spring back slightly next to compensate for the extra tension that the angle created and see if that will reduce the pull weight. This is a very well built and accurate pistol. It is a shame that it has gotten crippled by lawyers.

It's a very innovative design which is why I picked it up, but in hindsight I think Beretta tried to be TOO innovative. The trigger is absolutely horrible, and with mine it doesn't always reset. And like you said, I can't get a feel for where it's going to break. And the mag release button is in just about the same spot you'd hold your finger if you kept it off the trigger... meaning there could be some "premature ejections" of the mag. This would be a wonderful gun if not for the trigger and mag release. So as it is, I'm gonna be looking to get rid of my Neos.

Trigger unpredictability is not a positive, it is not a feature, it is a defect. A good trigger is a consistent trigger.

My cousin had the 6inch barrel version and he had some major issues with it. After sitting in his drawer for a year he pulled it out and after one mag trigger stopped resetting. From what I seen it has some plastic internals I think. Good review

@NCshooter1213 That would annoy me, too. Because good grief, if It's broken, go fix it... or get rid of it. I can't imagine it would be that awful to do, either. I mean, it's more complex inside then MY gun's trigger is (1858) but it can't have too many places to hang up.

Was looking at getting one of these a few years back, but seeing as I've got nowhere to shot, kinda meh on it now.

@Minnesota Shooter I have told him numerous times to send it in for repair but he just won't do it. He works on a nuclear plant and makes plenty of money so he just went out and bought another .22 pistol and put the berretta back in his drawer. I can't stand that its just sitting there. I have tried to buy it so I can have it fixed but he refuses to sell it even though he won't ever fix it. He is a character..lol

We have a couple thousand rounds through my wifes and it has no issues. Eats up and spits out every ammo that we've put through it. I would have him call Beretta.

I did a little review as well. Pretty much same thoughts as yours. There is an online tutorial on how tho smooth out the trigger. Not that hard and it takes 20 min.

Why is it that when someone who is right handed says a pistol is off, it is almost always "low left'? I read or hear this on videos time after time after time. Seems rather suspicious to me. Are all of these people pulling their shots with their trigger finger? I used to always shoot "low left" until l learned to apply more pressure with my support hand.

Have been on the fence with the Neos for a while.....this firearm has been out quite some time and in my opinion Beretta should have addressed two issues....one being thr trigger....second is the front sight....should have been fiber optic by now....when those things are addressed i will purchase one.....

Its the model I really want to get, seem a good choice from the reviews I've seen, but would like one more point of view from you :)

I just added a Buckmark UDX to my Ruger MkIII and have to admit I saw the Beretta Neos at the store and was tempted, especially for the low price. I am not so sure why you are luke warm on this gun, I did not get a chance to feel trigger but the fit, finish and design is nice, albeit a matter of taste. You rave about the SR22 which you had misfires with and were missing shots. The Neos is clearly better than a Ruger SR22 for plinking... Mags are cheap and the Mag release is the most awesome as are the other controls.

i will never understand the "its a good first pistol" or the "its an entry level pistol" that everyone says. I have an older one that was recalled, I never had it serviced. it still shoots great. I also have a browning buckmark. i'd rank the neos just as good in the accuracy dept. higher in the reliability dept. not as good in the styling simply due to the slender grip, but i can adjust to it. and well above the browning in the field stripping dept and it is significantly cheaper. so i guess call it a good starter/first pistol. if this is your first .22 cal pistol, i'd make it your only .22 cal pistol. its fantastic!

I bought a neos last month and I should have read about it first, the trigger is awful, it has a long pull that gets tighter and tighter until it finally breaks and the reason why is because beretta had a recall on the early models as they could fire when being taken off safe, so they made the trigger very safe but it is really awful, it's so bad I find myself wanting to hammer at it and the rear sight also walks up as I shoot, also the frame is plastic, the long screw in the bottom of the handle threads into the bottom of the ejector block that's held in with a single roll pin and it stripped the first time I had it apart, I did find a replacement part but it took some looking. I wish I had bought the ruger. I did get to shoot a ruger 22/45 lite that someone else owns and it's a sweetheart. I will be taking a loss on this neos and buying a ruger very soon, as soon as the ejector block gets here and I can repair and sell/trade this disappointment.

@ilovetheusers Yea it was really stiff, it has a big weighted firing pin, looks like about 1/3 of a steel pencil and it's spring loaded. The trigger pulls a tab down that catches in a notch underneath and both surfaces are tapered so you have to work against the spring all the way. I have worked it with some 2000 grit sandpaper and polished it to a shine breaking the square edge a little and it's much better now but still not as nice as even my 10/22 rifles stock trigger. The ruger 22/45Lite that I shot was great, I put the 1st 3 shots right on the x at 10 yards and the rest close by. I paid 259.00 for the neos and the ruger was about 100 bucks more but ohh well, live and learn....again lol

Good explanation of why the trigger isn't so swell. TY. I usually wonder why people don't like a trigger (I don't mind different triggers as long as they have that stop before they break), but so often the folks that review them don't describe why they don't like it very well. This is quite helpful and I would hate that kind of trigger too, sounds more like a toy gun...

+Branden Erskine Yeah cause that's why they have 2 stage and set triggers. You get to know your rifle/pistol and you know when it will break. The whole surprise thing is great for people who flinch or have other trigger control issues (which are common to new shooters) But common, it's a .22 and Plinkster has probably sent more of em on their way than most. When I'm shooting benchrest I damn sure want to know exactly where that sucker is breaking.

I own both guns, personally I like my buckmark alot more, but I see what you mean, most handguns don't have a metal bracket over the open chamber, however I like guns that do because it makes it impossible to throw hot casings back at you, they can only go to the side.

Ruger mark3 is an excellent gun accurate and functions well with a variety of ammo. Just be sure your not buying a really beat up one. It is bulky and the magazines are weird with an odd lip making them ungaingly to carry. I have the neos also and find it to be very accurate and melts with your hand as if they were meant for each other. The integrated rail makes it a bit heavy and the controls are unique but it also has processed any ammo I've fed it. The mags are sturdy and they have a built in lever to assist in loading ammo and they make it easy to slide back in the pistol. Either one is a good choice. Cheers!
