Dance With Me
Berri Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Me being in love with you is a cry for help
cnd I don't know what to do
I don't wanna be saved
You've cheated and you lied to me
I'm the first to say that, “it was all a mistake”
cnd I shouldn't have snooped
Your unwavering dishonesty will be the end of me
ct least you're here with me
Your unwavering disloyalty will be the end of me
ct least you're here with me
Your unwavering dishonesty will be the end of me
ct least you're here with me
Your unwavering disloyalty will be the end of me
ct least you're here with me, my love
Watch ‘em all talk
They're jealous of us
cnd they don't know sh** about us
Don't care if I'm dumb,
ct least I'm not numb
I'm not the first fool to be in love
Watch ‘em all talk
They're jealous of us
cnd they don't know sh** about us
Don't care if I'm dumb,
ct least I'm not numb
I'm not the first fool to be in love
Your unwavering dishonesty will be the end of me
ct least you're here with me
Your unwavering disloyalty will be the end of me
ct least you're here with me
Your unwavering dishonesty will be the end of me
ct least you're here with me

Your unwavering disloyalty will be the end of me
ct least you're here with me, my love

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Berri's song "Dance With Me" convey a tumultuous and conflicted emotional state. The singer expresses being deeply in love with someone despite recognizing that it is a cry for help. This suggests a sense of desperation and vulnerability in the relationship, where the intensity of their feelings may be overwhelming and potentially harmful. The admission of not knowing what to do hints at a sense of confusion and uncertainty in navigating the complexities of the situation.

The theme of betrayal and dishonesty emerges as the singer acknowledges being cheated and lied to by their partner. Despite this, there is a contradictory desire not to be saved, indicating a willingness to endure the pain and turmoil for the sake of love. The self-awareness reflected in the admission of snooping and recognizing mistakes adds layers of introspection and inner turmoil to the narrative, highlighting the internal conflict between love and self-preservation.

The repetition of lines emphasizing the partner's unwavering dishonesty and disloyalty being the end of the singer suggests a sense of impending doom or inevitability in the relationship. Yet, the consolation of having the partner present offers a conflicting sense of comfort amidst the chaos. The juxtaposition of love and betrayal creates a poignant and complex emotional landscape, where the singer grapples with conflicting feelings of devotion and self-destructive tendencies.

The defiance in the face of external judgment, with references to others being jealous and ignorant about their relationship, speaks to a defiance and refusal to conform to societal expectations or norms. The acknowledgment of being perceived as a fool in love, along with the assertion of not being numb despite potential pain, adds depth to the portrayal of a protagonist who is willing to endure suffering for the sake of love. Overall, the lyrics of "Dance With Me" paint a portrait of a relationship fraught with turmoil, self-awareness, and a complex interplay of love, betrayal, and defiance against external judgment.

Deep down in Louisiana close to New Orleans
Way back up in the woods among the evergreens
There stood a log cabin made of earth and wood
Where lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode
Who never ever learned to read or write so well
But he could play a guitar just like a-ringin' a bell
Go, go
Go Johnny, go, go
Go Johnny, go, go
Go Johnny, go, go
Go Johnny, go, go
Johnny B. Goode
He used to carry his guitar in a gunny sack
Go sit beneath the tree by the railroad track
Oh, the engineers would see him sitting in the shade
Strumming with the rhythm that the drivers made
The people passing by they would stop and say
"Oh my what that little country boy could play"
Go, go
Go Johnny, go, go
Go Johnny, go, go
Go Johnny, go, go
Go Johnny, go, go
Johnny B. Goode
His mother told him "someday you will be a man
And you will be the leader of a big old band
Many people coming from miles around
To hear you play your music when the sun go down
Maybe someday your name will be in lights
Saying "Johnny B. Goode tonight"
Go, go
Go Johnny, go
Go, go, go Johnny, go
Go, go, go Johnny, go
Go, go, go Johnny, go
Go
Johnny B. Goode

Chuck Berry had everyone look at him like a lover. When it comes to modern music it started with him.

The Beatles may have started British rock, but that started in the black south

Everyone who has attempted the guitar has done the Chuck Barry shuffle. Everyone playing with him had stars in his eyes. A founding father of modern music.
