Bertine started her musical journey at a young age, penning her first songs aged just 12. After emerging from a more classical route and music college, she began to concentrate on her long-term fantasy to become a singer-songwriter. Her debut album Morbid Late Night Show, released in 1998, was followed by the Tore Johansson (Cardigans) produced Beautiful So Far in 2000, before Sweet Injections was released in 2003, produced by electronic experts Howie B and Magnus Fiennes and two tracks with producer Richard X (Sugababes, Rachel Stevens) including the hit single Girl Like You, all to widespread critical acclaim and commercial success.
In 2004 Bertine released the more commercial single Fake Your Beauty which became her second best hit to date. The single Ah-Ah was followed by the album Rollerskating, produced by Fred 'Pleasure' Ball.
In 2006 she released the singles 500 and Midnight followed by the album My Italian Greyhound on which she worked again with Fred 'Pleasure' Ball as a producer. This is expected to be her last album as she plans to move into songwriting for other artists.

Candy
Bertine Zetlitz Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Who thrived on rollercoasters
And would take you home for supper in a flash
She'd make you into something you are not
A little better than the one you used to be
Would kind of clash
Who'd go to see a movie
And kept laughing after everyone had gone
She'd serve you milk and cookies
And she'd whisper: You're the sweetest
And you'd feel ashamed for thinking: I'm the one!
That's what Candy would do
She'd smile just for you
That's what Candy would do
She would cut you in two
Candy was the kind of girl
Who'd wear a dozen dresses
She'd kept peeling off the layers through the day
She'd would give you stickers
She'd play cards a little smaller
And she'd whisper: This will get you on you way
That's what Candy would do
She'd smile just for you
That's what Candy would do
She would cut you in two
The lyrics of Bertine Zetlitz's song "Candy" tell the story of a girl named Candy who is a bit like a chameleon. She adapts herself to the people she is with, and she has a talent for making them feel special. The verses talk about how Candy can make you feel like a better version of yourself, while the chorus emphasizes her two-faced nature, warning that although she may smile just for you, she is also willing to cut you in two.
The first verse describes how Candy is an adrenaline junkie who loves roller coasters and is always up for an adventure. However, she is also a people pleaser who will invite you over for dinner and make you feel special. The second verse introduces us to another aspect of Candy's personality: she is a bit of a prankster who keeps laughing long after the joke is over. But she is also sweet and nurturing, serving milk and cookies and whispering sweet nothings.
Throughout the song, Candy seems to be someone who changes her appearance and behavior to please those around her, but underneath it all, there is a darker side to her. She is willing to "cut you in two" if it suits her purposes. Ultimately, the song seems to suggest that Candy is not to be trusted, but that her charms are hard to resist.
