No Place Like Home
Beth Hart Lyrics

Without a soul to call my own
I'm tired of talking to the cards
I miss the flowers in the yard
There's no place like home
No place like home
There's no place I'd rather be than home
I'm gonna move out of the street
Stack some stones maybe grow some wheat
Build a fire for a little heat
And have someone curl up at my feet
There's no place like home
No place like home
There's no place I'd rather be than home
I wanna hang up some pretty things
From my suitcase full of dreams
Maybe a letter or an old post card
That paper star stole from a jar
There's no place like home
No place like home
There's no place I'd rather be than home
The sweetest words I ever heard
Is welcome home
It's been a long and dusty road
There's a place that's meant for us
Full of faith, hope, love and trust
I'll keep trudging up the road
But someday I'll be going home
There's no place like home
No place like home
There's no place I'd rather be than home
Home, home
Home, home
In the first verse of the song, Beth Hart describes her life on the road, feeling lonely, and missing the simple pleasures of home. She is tired of talking to the cards, which could refer to her loneliness or perhaps trying to make decisions without the support of loved ones. She misses the flowers in the yard and the familiar comforts of being at home. These lyrics are reminiscent of the classic saying "there's no place like home," which Hart repeats as the chorus of the song.
In the second verse, Hart reveals her desire to leave the street and settle down somewhere more permanent. She wants to build a fire, grow some crops, and have someone to share her life with. This shows a desire for stability and a longing to create a home for herself. She also refers to her suitcase full of dreams, hinting at a hunger for a better life and a place to call her own. The postcard and paper star are sentimental items that hold meaning for her and would be a part of the decorations of her home.
The song ends on a hopeful note with Hart talking about finding a place meant for her full of faith, hope, love, and trust. This line shows her enduring optimism that she will one day find a place to call home. Throughout the song, Hart expresses her longing for something more than temporary accommodations and her need for the calming familiarity of home.
