Goodbye to Everything
Between the Buried and Me Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Breathe slowly
Open your eyes
Can you hear me?
Look at what's in front of you
An endless journey
Our end
What do you feel?
Were we ever really alive?
You know this is the right choice
Let's switch off together
Let's float to no more
Goodbye to everything
The lyrics to Between the Buried and Me's song "Goodbye to Everything" can be interpreted in several ways. On one hand, they could be seen as a commentary on the transience of life and the inevitability of death. The opening lines, "I wonder if I'm alive / Breathe slowly / Open your eyes" suggest a sense of existential questioning or uncertainty. The following lines, "Can you hear me? / Look at what's in front of you / An endless journey / Our end" seem to invite the listener to contemplate the vastness of the universe and the ultimate futility of human existence. The lines "What do you see? / What do you feel? / Were we ever really alive?" also seem to point to the idea that life may be an illusion or a fleeting experience.
Another possible interpretation of these lyrics is that they are about letting go or surrendering to the unknown. Lines like "You know this is the right choice" and "Let's switch off together / Let's float to no more / Goodbye to everything" suggest a willingness to embrace the inevitable and face it with grace and acceptance. The idea of "floating" also evokes a sense of weightlessness or surrender, which could be seen as a metaphor for the experience of letting go and allowing oneself to be carried away by the current of life.
Overall, the lyrics to "Goodbye to Everything" are open to interpretation and could be seen as a reflection on the fleeting nature of human existence or as a meditation on the power of surrender.
