Scene Six: Scared of Lonely
Beyoncé Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm trying to beat this emptiness, but I'm running out of time
I'm sinking in the sand and I can barely stand
I'm lost in this dream; I need you to hold me
I'm scared of lonely
I try to be patient, but I'm hurting deep inside
And I can't keep waiting; I need comfort late at night
'Cause I'm lost in this dream; I need you to hold me
[Chorus]
I'm scared of lonely
And I'm scared of being the only shadow I see along the wall
And I'm scared the only heartbeat I hear beating is my own
And I'm scared of being alone
I can't seem to breathe when I am
Lost in this dream; I need you to hold me
I'm scared of lonely
I'm scared of lonely
I cry at night 'cause my baby's too far to be by my side
To wipe away these tears of mine, so I hold my pillow tight
To imagine you would stretch your hand looking for mine
'Cause I'm lost in this dream; I need you to hold me
[Chorus]
I need your strength when nobody's around
'Cause I'm tired of this emptiness; I think I'm drowning
I can't be lonely no more
'Cause I'm lost in this dream; I need you to hold me
[Chorus: x2]
I'm scared of lonely
I'm scared of lonely
The song Scene Six: Scared of Lonely showcases the fear of being lonely, which is a common emotion that every person goes through at some point in their lives. The lyrics paint a picture of a woman who is in the midst of a battle with her loneliness, as she is fighting to overcome it, but her arms are getting tired from the constant struggle. The singer of the song is trying to fill the void within her, but she is running out of time, which is causing her to sink deeper into her emotional turmoil, to the point that she can barely stand. She is lost in a dream, and the only thing that can rescue her is the soothing embrace of someone who can hold her and wipe away her tears. The lyrics express the vulnerability that people face when they are alone, and the need for human connection, which can provide the much-needed warmth and comfort that people require to get through life.

Scared of lonely is definitely one of Beyoncé most underrated songs. You can literally feel the emotions behind her vocals.
@foxonfoxy1
She actually ended up scrapping this off the set list because it was too emotional for her to perform. It’s amazing how much emotion she can show. 🥺😍
@Hatingmuch600
