Hate
Beyond Decay Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Born and raised in a racist world
The media it makes me hurl
Being told just what to think
Being told to sit and drink

Drink of poison, drink of lies
You will see that I wont hide
I will stand, and I wont beg
I will fight it till I die

Told to conform, told that I'm wrong
While news agencies blame it on "black" crime

Freedom of speech, where are our rights?
Thrown out the door for capitalist ties

Ties of intrigue, ties of deceit
Dance in the flames of what imperialists think
Nations building, nations hate
Burn your flag, don't play patriot games

When I look at all the kids
In the streets, in the pits
All I see is fucking hate
That's destroying how they live

If war is patriotic
Then what the fuck is peace
If hate is just genetic
Than what the fuck is love

With all of the lies that are infecting me
I been hypnotized by the land of the free
Now don't try to tell me that I'm just anti
Go ahead, try and hate me

If injustice is considered service
Than what the fuck is safe
What the fuck I'm saying is
We must change our ways
We don't want the fucking hate
Don't wanna face it everyday
From Iraq to Iran
Your King Georges number one fan

Hate
Destroys us all

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Beyond Decay's song "Hate" are a strong commentary on the issues of racism, media manipulation, and societal conformity. The song is a reflection of the Band's discontent with the world we live in, and their refusal to be poisoned by the lies perpetuated by the media. The first couple of lines of the song are explicitly clear about the racist upbringing of the singer, which influences the way they see the world. The media is causing a disgust in the singer, as they feel as if they are being told what to think, and are also being told to sit and drink the poison and lies that the media is peddling.

The singer emphasizes their rejection of these ideas, stating that they will stand and fight for what they believe in, even if it means giving up their lives in the process. There is a strong opposition to conformity in the song, stating that being told they're wrong while conforming to society's demands is hypocritical. The concept of freedom of speech is brought up, with the singer questioning where the rights of the people are. They claim that these rights have been thrown out the door in favor of capitalist ties, and that there is a dishonesty in news outlets blaming "black" crime. This is a direct statement against the mainstream media in America, where "black" crime is reported disproportionately compared to other crimes.

The song also addresses the concept of patriotism and the dangers of nationalism. The singer rejects patriotic symbols like flags and the idea that war is something to be celebrated. The concept of hate is also discussed, with the singer questioning why it exists and what it has to do with genetics. The song ends with the plea for change, and a message that hate destroys us all.
