Big Audio Dynamite II Lyrics

But in a way I know
Didn't think that you could get
So much from a picture show
Man dies first reel
People ask what's the deal?
This ain't how it's supposed to be
Don't like no aborigine
Took a trip in Powis Square
Pop star dyed his hair
No fans to scream and shout
When mobsters came to flush him out
Gangland slaying underground
New identity must be found
On the left bank for a while
Insanity Bohemian style
Ritual ideas relativety
Only buildings no people prophecy
Time slide place to hide nudge reality
Foresight minds wide magic imagery, oh oh
Met a dwarf that was no good
Dressed like little Red Riding Hood
Bad habit taking life
A calling card a six inch knife
Ran off really fast
Mumbled something 'bout the past
Best sex I've ever seen
As if each moment was the last
Drops of blood color slide
Funeral for his bride
But it's him who's really dead
Gets to take the funeral ride
Ritual ideas relativity
Only buildings no people prophecy
Time slide place to hide nudge reality
Foresight minds wide magic imagery, oh oh
Oh oh
Oh oh
Oh oh
Space guy fell from the sky
Scratched my head and wondered why
Time slide into time
Across international dateline
Scientist eats bubblegum
Hall of fame baseball
Senators a Hoodlum
Big chiefs in the hall
Ritual ideas relativity
Only buildings no people prophecy
Time slide place to hide nudge reality
Foresight minds wide magic imagery, oh oh
Stray thoughts fear to tread
Placed upon the screen instead
She's my flame too hot to hold
Had to settle for her cold
Blood lust, Greek god, gold discovery
Gone bust, tight wad, slow recovery
Axe job, flame thrower, iron bar and gun
Betting shop, New owner, A walk in the sun
Ritual ideas relativity
Only buildings no people prophecy
Time slide place to hide nudge reality
Foresight minds wide magic imagery, oh oh
Spread the news the Maestro's back
With a beat box soundtrack
The King of brains, Queen of the sack'
Executives have heart attack
It's assault course celluloid
The money makers would avoid
Sometimes notions get reversed
Center of the universe
Ritual ideas relativity
Only buildings no people prophecy
Time slide place to hide nudge reality
Foresight minds wide magic imagery, oh oh
Oh oh
Oh oh
Oh oh
Ritual ideas relativety
Only buildings no people prophecy
Timeslide place to hide nudge reality
Foresight minds wide magic imagery, oh oh

The lyrics to Big Audio's song E=Mc2 are full of enigmatic and surreal imagery that give the sense of multiple stories and characters interconnected in a strange and dreamlike universe. The first verse is about a man who dies early while watching a movie; the singer doesn't know him, but somehow knows he didn't want to die like that. The second verse talks about a pop star who changes his appearance and hides from his former associates in Paris, living an insane and bohemian lifestyle. The third verse tells the story of a dwarf dressed like Red Riding Hood who murders someone and runs away, leaving only a trail of blood behind him. The fourth verse talks about a scientist who falls from the sky and travels through time, encountering strange phenomena.
The chorus of the song talks about "ritual ideas relativety, only buildings no people prophecy, timeslide place to hide nudge reality, foresight minds wide magic imagery". These lines seem to suggest that the different stories and images in the song are connected by a sense of ritual, time, and magic. The song is full of references to popular culture, such as baseball, betting shops, and mobsters, mixed with more abstract and symbolic elements, like prophecy, relativety, and magic imagery.
Line by Line Meaning
Somebody I never met
Though I've never met this person, in some way, I feel like I know them.
Didn't think that you could get
So much from a picture show
I didn't expect to gain so much insight from a mere movie, but it proved to be quite profound.
Man dies first reel
People ask what's the deal?
This ain't how it's supposed to be
Don't like no aborigine
When the singer dies so early in the movie, it's jarring and leaves people wondering what just happened; this feels unfair and I dislike that aborigines are always portrayed negatively in film.
Took a trip in Powis Square
Pop star dyed his hair
No fans to scream and shout
When mobsters came to flush him out
I went to Powis Square and saw a popular musician who had changed his hair color; there were no screaming fans, but there were mobsters trying to get him out of hiding.
Gangland slaying underground
New identity must be found
On the left bank for a while
Insanity Bohemian style
There was an underground killing by a gang; someone had to assume a new identity; they stayed on the Left Bank for a while and embraced a Bohemian lifestyle that was a bit insane.
Ritual ideas relativety
Only buildings no people prophecy
Time slide place to hide nudge reality
Foresight minds wide magic imagery, oh oh
There are ritualistic ideas that pertain to the theory of relativity; certain prophecies only involve buildings rather than people; time can be manipulated to hide and blur reality; people with foresight can conjure up powerful and compelling mental images.
Met a dwarf that was no good
Dressed like little Red Riding Hood
Bad habit taking life
A calling card a six inch knife
I met a dwarf who was up to no good and dressed like Little Red Riding Hood; he had a bad habit of killing and always left behind a calling card - a six inch knife.
Ran off really fast
Mumbled something 'bout the past
Best sex I've ever seen
As if each moment was the last
The dwarf ran away quickly and muttered something about the past; I once had incredible sex that felt like it was each moment's last.
Drops of blood color slide
Funeral for his bride
But it's him who's really dead
Gets to take the funeral ride
There are slides of bloody drops and a funeral for the dwarf's bride, but it's him who's truly dead and therefore gets to go on the funeral ride.
Space guy fell from the sky
Scratched my head and wondered why
Time slide into time
Across international dateline
Scientist eats bubblegum
Hall of fame baseball
Senators a Hoodlum
Big chiefs in the hall
A space traveler fell from the sky, and I was puzzled as to why; time seemed to be slipping as I crossed the International Dateline; a scientist ate bubblegum; there were famous baseball players and, surprisingly, some senators who were hoodlums.
Stray thoughts fear to tread
Placed upon the screen instead
She's my flame too hot to hold
Had to settle for her cold
I put some stray thoughts that I was too scared to think aloud onto the screen instead; there's a woman who I'm extremely attracted to but she's too hot to handle, so I had to settle for her cold side.
Blood lust, Greek god, gold discovery
Gone bust, tight wad, slow recovery
Axe job, flame thrower, iron bar and gun
Betting shop, New owner, A walk in the sun
There are themes of bloodlust, Greek gods, and gold discoveries; things go downhill, money is tight, and recovery is slow; there are weapons including an axe, flame thrower, iron bar, and gun; a betting shop gets a new owner, and they take a walk in the sun.
Spread the news the Maestro's back
With a beat box soundtrack
The King of brains, Queen of the sack'
Executives have heart attack
It's assault course celluloid
The money makers would avoid
Sometimes notions get reversed
Center of the universe
There's news that the Maestro has returned, with a beat box soundtrack; this person is both the king of intelligence and the queen of sex; executives are freaking out; it's a challenging and unconventional style of movie-making that traditional money makers would avoid; sometimes the most unlikely people can end up at the center of the universe.

Oh oh
Another interlude, without meaningful lyrics.
Ritual ideas relativety
Only buildings no people prophecy
Timeslide place to hide nudge reality
Foresight minds wide magic imagery, oh oh, oh oh
A final repetition of the earlier block of lyrics, essentially summarizing the overarching theme of the song - that there are powerful and magical aspects to our perceptions of reality beyond what we can observe or explain.

@BNCA70
I used to listen to this on cassette on my first walkman in the summer of 86 when I was 16. My Dad died that summer while it was still in the charts, he was only 55. I often wonder if he ever heard this on the radio while driving around in his works van before he got ill. I hope we liked the same music, I reckon we did. Love you Dad.
@thra5herxb12s
I'm 56 now, my Dad died 3 months ago. Music was his life and I will miss him forever. Love you Dad.
@briky71
Great song ,love what you wrote
@debbieschnaible3705
My husband died last year and we loved this album, we took our first born daughter and saw them in concert in the early 90's. And partied with Mick and Johnny Lydon from PIL, a awesome memory that I hold dear.
@zyxvwu
I lost my mom in 85', I was 16, and I loved (still do) this song...Sigh...
@CoatedIngoo
Dad also died in 86 @65 just before I turned 16. Liked his jazz, old rock, country, big band... Lawrence Welk Show ftw! He was also very good about the music I listened to and would dance around while MTV played whatever (like it used to do!) xD Good memories. <3 Dad <3
@waynerafferty1048
