The band was originally formed in 1989 by leader Scott Morris. He and Kurt Sodergren are the two "original" members, with the rest of the band joining later on. The band concentrated on the swing of the 1940s and '50s, playing clubs and lounges in their early years.
The band launched two CDs, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Watchu' Want for Christmas? under their own label (Big Bad Records) before getting their big break when their songs "You & Me & The Bottle Makes Three Tonight (Baby)" and "Go Daddy-O" were featured in the 1996 comedy Swingers.
From there they were signed by Capitol Records. With Capitol the band released Americana Deluxe (also known as a second Big Bad Voodoo Daddy) and This Beautiful Life. The band has continued their tours, performances and album releases Save My Soul, Live, and Everything You Want For Christmas, with one high point being their appearance at the 1999 Super Bowl half-time show.
Over the last few years, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy has experienced great success playing on the Pops programs of American Symphony Orchestras and regular US tours.
Most recently, BBVD released a tribute album titled How Big Can You Get?: The Music of Cab Calloway. As part of the live concerts promoting this recent album, the band continues to perform new material, including the track "5-10-15 Times I Love You" which frontman Scotty Morris says will be recorded as part of a new album in early 2011.

Diga doo
The song "Diga Diga Do" by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy showcases the band's signature swing style with upbeat lyrics that are hard not to dance to. The song begins with a Zulu man who is feeling blue and singing "Diga diga doo, diga doo doo" which is his way of expressing himself through his heart's beat. The song continues with the idea that when you love someone, it is natural to express it through music and the sounds of "diga diga doo". The lyrics mention that saying "Diga diga doo" to your partner is essential, and if you don't, you may "lose your pop."

Diga Diga Doo.
What an awesome music video.
This is one of my favorite exotica music tracks by Martin Denny.
But it didn’t start that way. The original was written and performed for the Broadway musical “Blackbirds of 1929” by Jimmy McHugh (music) and Dorothy Fields (words).
• It hit number 17 in the charts in 1928 when it was recorded by the Duke Ellington Orchestra.
Diga Diga Doo went on to be recored many times by many artists:
• The Mills Brothers (19342),
• Benny Goodman (1935),
• Cootie Williams (1937), and many others, etc…
• It even was done in the film “Stormy Weather” by the great Lena Horne (1943.)
• In the 50’s it was recorded as a EXOTICA music track by the king of Exotica Martin Denny.
Who recorded it in the gymnasium of the King Kamehameha High School because of the neat acoustics.
Quickly afterward it was recorded and released by the other exotica bands of the Hawaiian-craze of the day:
• Les Baxter
• Arthur Lyman
It made it’s way through all the TIKI lounges in Waikiki and then the mainland where it hit such famous places as “Don the Beach Comber’s Tiki Lounge” and “Trader Vics”.
It can even be heard today as it is still recorded by Neo-exotica bands and new acts capturing that Vintage hipster craze like “Big Bad Voo Doo Daddy”.

I am a HUGE BBVD fan. I go see them live every time they come to Georgia. This time it was about a 285 mile trip (one way). It was absolutely worth it!! These guys sound even better live than they do on their discs. How often does that happen? I stayed after and they graciously signed all of my CDs and program. They could have been complete jerks because I brought so many things, but they were all super-nice and friendly. I even got my picture with Scotty. Great music and great guys.
