I'll Live Again
Bill & Gloria Gaither Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'll never smile again
Until I smile at you
I'll never laugh again
What good would it do?
For tears would fill my eyes
My heart would realize
That our romance is through
I'll never love again
I'm so in love with you
I'll never thrill again
To somebody new
Within my heart
I know I will never start

To smile again
Until I smile at you

Overall Meaning

The first verse of the song talks about how the singer will never smile or laugh again until they are with the person they love. The use of repetition in the phrase "I'll never" emphasizes the depth of the singer's despair after their romance has ended. The use of the word "romance" suggests that this was more than just a casual relationship, but rather a deep love affair that has come to an end. The second half of the first verse portrays the image of tears filling the singer's eyes, showing the emotional pain and heartbreak they are experiencing.

The second verse continues with the same theme, except the singer declares that they will never love or thrill again with someone else. The repetition of "I'll never" has a stronger impact in this verse, indicating that the singer is so in love with their former partner that they cannot imagine being with someone else. The line "within my heart, I know I will never start to smile again until I smile at you" shows that the singer's heart is only capable of being happy when they are with the one they love. The song's message is clear: without love, there is no happiness.

Overall, the song portrays the timeless feeling of heartbreak and reminds the listener of the deep impact that love can have on our lives. It's a reminder that while love can be a source of joy and happiness, it can also be a source of pain and sorrow when it ends.

Kingsmen were one of the only groups in the modern “Gaither era” to really keep the uptempo vocal stylings of the golden age of the Southern gospel quarters of the 50’s and 60’s. But it seems to me that the quartets were rarely featured on Gaither videos, except for GVB. Whenever they were, though, they stole the show, just like they did here.

@ExSkyCyclePilot

Never cared for the Gaithers. The Kingsmen were in a totally different league...

@JasPlun

They were one f the few groupd left that were still touring at that time. Some groups were very busy at that time and had already made commitments to be elsewhere. Many groups started touring again from the popularity of the Gaither Videos. Kinsman, Kingdom Hiers, Lewis Family had a few appearences, but I am sure it was tough to get them scheduled to be at these events:P

Wrote this one in 1976 and had no idea it would become such a classic. Thank you Kingsmen and thank You Lord.

+Ila Knight It's one of my all time favorites! I loved it first by the Inspirations Quartet then by the Kingsmen.

@flaggkort

+Ila Knight Oh my gosh I just saw that you wrote another one of my favorite songs, I'll Be in the Rapture. Loved it when the Inspirations did that one with Marlin Shubert.
