Til The Storm Passes By

Have I oft hid my face
While the storm howls above me
And there′s no hiding place
'Mid the crash of the thunder
Precious Lord, hear my cry
"Keep me safe ′til the storm passes by."
'Til the thunder sounds no more
′Til the clouds roll forever from the sky
Hold me fast, let me stand
In the hollow of Thy hand
Keep me safe ′til the storm passes by
Many times Satan tells me
"There is no need to try
For there's no end of sorrow
There′s no hope by and by"
But I know Thou art with me
And tomorrow I'll rise
Where the storms never darken the skies
′Til the storm passes over
'Til the thunder sounds no more
′Til the clouds roll forever from the sky
Hold me fast, let me stand
In the hollow of Thy hand
Keep me safe 'til the storm passes by
Keep me safe 'til the storm passes by
The song 'Til The Storm Passes By' by Bill & Gloria Gaither is a powerful hymn that expresses faith and the need for God's protection during difficult times. The lyrics convey a sense of helplessness and vulnerability in the face of a raging storm that threatens to engulf the singer. However, it is also a song of hope, acknowledging the presence of God even in the darkest of nights. The first verse acknowledges the fear and vulnerability that comes with a storm, both literally and metaphorically. The singer seeks refuge in God's protection and asks for safety until the storm passes over.
As the song continues, the second verse speaks to the temptation to give in to despair and hopelessness in times of trouble. However, the singer finds comfort and strength in the knowledge that God is with him/her, and that there is hope for a brighter future. The chorus is a powerful repetition of the plea for safety and protection until the storm passes by, reflecting the universal desire for safety and security in times of crisis.
Overall, 'Til The Storm Passes By' is a beautiful hymn that speaks to the human need for faith and hope in the midst of suffering. It is a powerful reminder of the presence of God, even in the darkest of times, and a prayer for His protection and guidance.

In the dark of the midnight
During dark times when I feel lost and alone
Have I oft hid my face
I have hidden from others, and even from myself
While the storm howls above me
When life's challenges are relentless and overpowering
And there's no hiding place
When I feel I have nowhere to turn
'Mid the crash of the thunder
During loud and ominous moments
Precious Lord, hear my cry
I call out to God for help and guidance
"Keep me safe 'til the storm passes by."
I ask for divine protection to get through the difficult times
'Til the storm passes over
Until the troubles subside
'Til the thunder sounds no more
Until the noise and chaos of life settle down

Hold me fast, let me stand
I ask for the strength to endure and persevere
In the hollow of Thy hand
I seek comfort and support in God's loving embrace
Keep me safe 'til the storm passes by
I trust that God will protect me until the difficult times pass
Many times Satan tells me
I face temptation, doubt and negativity
"There is no need to try
I feel like giving up and losing hope
For there's no end of sorrow
I fear that sadness and pain will never end
There's no hope by and by"

This song has Spiritual and physical meaning to me. When I was 10 years old, Hurricane Donna hit Ft Myers FL. We lived in a trailer park on Ft Myers Beach. Our family went to our Pastor's house to wait out the storm. I remember, vividly, his whole family and ours, kneeling around his coffee table and praying for the protection of our home. When it was over, we drove back home, unsure EXACTLY what we were going to see. As we pulled into the park, there was just absolute devistation on the right and on the left. Trailers with NOTHING but the steel girders and wheels left. Ours was the ONLY trailer standing! There was a nearly empty can of flea powder for the dog on the coffee table, that would fall over at the slightest bump. It was still standing! A palm tree that was just inches from the side of the trailer was split down the middle, and never even scratched the paint! I KNOW God answers Prayer!!!

He is our shelter in every storm. We had a similar experience. As I backed out of our driveway evacuating ahead of hurricane Katrina approaching, I looked back at our modest home of 40 years, knowing it was the Lord's to do with as He wanted. I prayed and asked Him to please spare the house. When we came back, there were trees down all around us, on three different sheds - but only one shingle on our roof needed to be nailed down. I have always imagined that He simply placed His hand, palm down, over the house. He is more wonderful than words can express.
