And won't let me go,
I turn to you for consolation.
There I find new peace of mind;
To leave behind my woe
I turn to you as I shall always do.
[Chorus]
Your lips that are cool and sweet,
Such tenderness lies in their soft caress,
My heart forgets to beat.
The touch of your hands upon my head,
The love in your eyes a-shine,
And now, at last, that moment divine,
The touch of your lips on mine.
The touch of your hands upon my head,
The love in your eyes a-shine,
And now, at last, that moment divine,
The touch of your lips on mine.
Analyzing the lyrics of Bill Evans's song "The Touch of Your Lips," the song talks about finding comfort and peace of mind in someone's presence. The singer reveals that when faced with troubles and worries that won't go away, they turn to their companion for consolation. The feeling is so profound that the singer forgets their despair when they experience the touch of their companion's lips on their brow. The lyrics convey that the cool and sweet nature of the companion's touch provides a tender caress that allows the singer to forget their worries.
The chorus describes how the touch of the companion's hands on the singer's head creates a feeling of shining love in their eyes, leading to that moment of divine intimacy. The repetition of the phrase "The touch of your hands upon my head, the love in your eyes a-shine" emphasizes the profound emotional presence their companion has in their life. Additionally, mention of the "moment divine" may suggest that their companionship transcends any mundane or earthly concern. It's an evocative portrayal of the power of intimate human connection and its ability to heal worry and angst.

When troubles get me, cares beset me
When I am facing difficulties and issues
And won't let me go,
That I cannot escape from
I turn to you for consolation.
I find comfort and solace in you
There I find new peace of mind;
And I discover a fresh tranquility
To leave behind my woe
So that I can forget my troubles
I turn to you as I shall always do.
And I know that I will always turn to you
The touch of your lips upon my brow,
When you gently kiss me on my forehead
Your lips that are cool and sweet,
Your mouth that feels refreshing and pleasant
Such tenderness lies in their soft caress,
Your gentle touch conveys your affection and care
My heart forgets to beat.
I feel overwhelmed with emotions and my heart races
The touch of your hands upon my head,
When you hold my head in your hands
The love in your eyes a-shine,
When I see the love in your eyes shining brightly
And now, at last, that moment divine,
Finally, that magical moment arrives
The touch of your lips on mine.
When we kiss passionately
The touch of your hands upon my head,
Again, when you hold my head in your hands
The love in your eyes a-shine,
Once more, when I see the love in your eyes shining brightly
And now, at last, that moment divine,
Once again, that magical moment arrives
The touch of your lips on mine.
And we kiss passionately once more.

Fantastic - thanks for posting! Recently, I've been listening to the early Evans/Gomez/Morrell recordings. You can tell there was a spark from the start. Another (burning!) version of Autumn Leaves!

I love every version that Bill plays Very Early but this is my favorite
Daniel Suarez
The original is in LP "California here I come". It is the best.
Hamish Archibald
@Daniel Suarez he played it in 1962 on moonbeams first
Longhaul Blue
The first track is incorrectly titled, it's "Very Early". Evans describes it as a "very early" composition. It's chord changes are quite inventive and original, unlike your typical song.

My first exposure to Bill Evans was "Conversations With Myself" and I was hooked from that day forward. My biggest treat, getting to see him in person at an intimate club venue in Dallas, TX.

I think it had to be in mid 1971. I was involved with a girl who was with the group that just opened "Celebration". She and I sat in a booth not ten feet from him listening in awe as we drank Vodka Martini's. After closing we managed to make it back to my place at The Castilian on Cedar Springs. Now, I know this is going to sound strange but as I recall he had a cast on his forearm, left I believe, which put us in even more awe of his playing. I'll tell you, I appreciate him much more now than I did then and upon looking back almost feel irreverent for drinking while he played. I was about 23 at the time. Club name escapes me completely.
