Haley was blinded in his left eye as a child due to a botched operation. According to biographer John Swenson, Haley later adopted his distinctive spit-curl hairstyle to distract attention from his blind eye. The spit-curl caught on as a 50's style signature, although Haley and others had worn the hairstyle much earlier.
In 1946, Haley joined his first professional group, a Pennsylvania-based western swing band called The Down Homers run by Kenny Roberts. It has often been reported in musical reference works that Haley's first professional recordings were made with the Down Homers on a pair of singles released in 1946 by Vogue Records. This was later debunked by Roberts and others, stating Haley had already left the group by the time the singles were made. In the early 2000s, however, a set of 1946 radio recordings by the Down Homers were discovered and Haley is definitely present as he is identified by name and sings a solo number "She Taught Me to Yodel"; these recordings were commercially released for the first time in 2006.
After gaining experience with the Down Homers, Haley set out on his own, forming several groups such as the Range Drifters and the Four Aces of Western Swing. With the Four Aces, he made a number of regionally successful country music singles in the late 1940s for Cowboy Records while working as a touring musician and later a radio DJ at WPWA. (Many of Haley's early recordings from this period would not be released until after his death.) After disbanding the Four Aces and briefly trying a solo career using the names Jack Haley and Johnny Clifton (as chronicled in the biography Sound and Glory), Haley formed a new group called The Saddlemen in either 1949 or 1950 (sources vary as to the exact year); this new group recorded for several labels, including one single for Atlantic Records, Haley's first exposure to a major national record company. In 1951, Haley was signed to Dave Miller's Philadelphia-based Holiday Records and began to change musical styles, recording cover versions of "Rocket "88"" (previously recorded by Jackie Brenston and His Delta Cats), and in, 1952, "Rock the Joint", previously recorded by several bands including Jimmy Preston and His Prestonians. (By the time of "Rock the Joint", Haley had graduated from Holiday Records to Miller's larger Essex label.) The relative success of these recordings (both sold in the 75,000-100,000 copy range in the Pennsylvania-New England region) convinced Haley that his new and as-yet officially unnamed hybrid of country and rhythm and blues could be a commercial success.and some of his family lives in oklahoma and there is a road named after his family.

I was scare but she said 'No worry, I'll take care of it?
Would you mind grabbin' something to eat, afterward I asked
Sittin' down by the sushi bar we laughed past curfew
Three days later, awe at the turk she started feelin' down
I smiled 'n said no worry, come with me I'll take care of it
Oooh really' Please just leave my world be, she said
So I cry me-self a river, longing for that Yanky dime
Just built a bridge and get-over it, you said
Went to bed, couldn't sleep, all I do is thinking of you
So much to be said, so much to kiss and tell
Sitting next to the fire, drinking Pepsi 'n watching Blood Diamonds
Oh, you outta know ya the reason I fell off the heaven
Miss you so much
She's a hometown hottie and I'm a simple Valley-girl
Sip down the country coast where the crawfish fest ruled
It was hard, she was dazzled and I try not to stare
So I shout 'Whateva!' and she said 'Shut up, you're an idiot!'
Tube up-n-down the river, we were cruising' for a bruisin'
Oh, the feeling I felt that perfect day in Wade
It's the kind of fuzzy feeling can't be said but only felt
So perfect just right and ain't no words can ever do justice
Gonna cry me-self a river, too much candy for a Yanky dime
Just built a bridge and get-over it, you said
Went to bed, tryin' sleep, all I do is thinking of you
So much to be said, but it's gonna be sucked
Hanging on the roof, drinking Coke 'n watching Start Dust
Oh, you outta know ya the reason I fell off the heaven
More than ya ever know, miss you much
It is not very easy to interpret the lyrics of Bill Haley's song Miss You. The lyrics seem to be a collection of various events in the singer's life that he shared with a girl named Yanky Dime. They met while working together and went out to eat together, laughed past curfew at a sushi bar, trolled down some miles, cruised up and down the river, and hung out on the roof, drinking Coke and watching star dust. They had a perfect day in Wade but Yanky Dime started feeling down. The singer said he would take care of her but she wanted him to leave her world alone. There is a sense of longing and missing between them. The singer cries him-self a river and tries to get over it. He thinks of Yanky Dime while sitting next to the fire, drinking Pepsi, and watching Blood Diamonds. He misses her so much and considers her the reason he fell off the heaven.
The lyrics of Miss You are confusing and have different interpretations. It seems like the song is about a brief romantic encounter between two people who had a connection but never pursued it. It could also be about a guy who was rejected by a girl he liked and is now reminiscing about the moments they spent together. The imagery in the lyrics is vivid and paints a picture of the singer's life, which is incomplete without Yanky Dime. The use of colloquial language and slang adds an informal tone to the song.
