A Teenager in Love
Bill Haley & His Comets Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm in the mood for love
Simply because you're near me.
Funny, but when you're near me
I'm in the mood for love.

Heaven is in your eyes
Bright as the stars we're under
Oh! Is it any wonder
I'm in the mood for love?

Why stop to think of whether
This little dream might fade?
We've put our hearts together
Now we are one, I'm not afraid!

If there's a cloud above
If it should rain we'll let it

But for tonight, forget it!
I'm in the mood for love

There was no such thing as a "teen" in the 1920's, they were known as "young adults". Growing up, getting a job, a house, and marriage was very serious to them. Flappers were young girls who haven't yet reached womanhood. (wiki)

Fifty years ago, the word "teenager" was used for the first time - coined by Bill Haley and the Comets during a UK tour in February 1957(wiki)

During 1944, Americans started to use the word 'teenager' to describe the place of youth in their society. From the very beginning, it was a marketing term that recognised the spending power of adolescents.(wiki)

@Malango 69 I wish people would get their facts straight before they start making authoritative commentary on social media. To begin with, it was well over 65 years ago the term teenager was used and it wasn't Bill Haley in 1957. Teenager was a well-established term and was used by several rock and roll groups well before 1957, for instance "Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers" had hits the year before in 1956. Word to the wise... make sure you know the facts before you make commentary.
