It always amazed me to watch Butch play.

Too often we think of Monroe as being a rock on Mt. Rushmore but his timing and drive were young vibrant and energetic.

@Old Goat James Monroe was/is no hero. Did anyone ever wonder why Bill was on the road well into his late 70s, playing in barely profitable venues?

@Old Goat Where is an english teacher when we need one? Ignore Rasputin, uh, whoops, got his handle wrong. Bill M, Tater and most of the Boys (but not Kenny Baker) were guests at our restaurant in 1989 & 1990. Mr Monroe did a kind thing, twice, for my cancer-enduring father. I'll never forget him for that and for his legendary music making. If there were a Mt Rushmore for musical luminaries, he'd be there, in my book (hmm, is my use of "book" a metaphor?)

Old Goat No worries. Everybody just kept saying that it was a metaphor. I understood that. It was just that the metaphor he used was not accurate, thus making it a nonsense metaphor.
Old Goat
@Rapaglia1 in that case I reject my previous statement because my understanding of the presidents of the United States is lacking, as I am not American. I completely forgot James Monroe existed let alone his state as a enormous stone statue, which is null

Old Goat No, I don’t think YOU do. I get that he’s trying to imply a metaphor between Bill Monroe and James Monroe. But he still states that Monroe is on Mt. Rushmore. James Monroe is NOT on Rushmore. So although it’s a metaphor, it’s incorrect. It’s not a metaphor if the reference points you use are totally incorrect. What do you not understand about that???

Bill Monroe was one of the most aggressive musicians in music history.
He's beating the shit out of his instrument and keeping the rythm and melody in place at the same time.
Mind blowing and beautiful.
