Monroe's performing career spanned 60 years as a singer, instrumentalist, composer and bandleader. He is often referred to as "the father of bluegrass."
In the rock (and roll) community, Bill Monroe may be best known via one of Elvis Presley's earliest recordings at Sun Records, that of Monroe's 'Blue Moon of Kentucky'. Patsy Cline also made a highly regarded version of this song.

Thank you for posting this . I had a fiddle player in the early 90's hand a tape to me with this song on it. He had recorded it from a 45 RPM. He would not give up until I had the banjo break note for note like the one on this recording. We played Virginia Darlin on every show.

What old fiddle tune was it derived from? Considering the tune was written as a tribute to Virginia Stauffer, who certainly had an "impact" on Bill Monroe it would be interesting to know more about it.
