After the assassination of Orozco, Romero took the group under his management. He was able to maintain the group's popularity by hiring young talents and maintaining always a new style. Romero first hired Gabriel "El Gaby" García who was physically very similar to Orozco and impersonated him, the chorus was Jean Carlos Centeno and the other was Jorgito Celedón, as well as his accordionist nephew JF "El Morre" Romero. Their debut was in Venezuela in a national popular tv show contest "Premio Orquidea" which they won that year. Binomio de Oro then recorded the first album without Orozco titled "Todo Corazón (album)" featuring Romero siting along an empty chair implying that his partner was irreplaceable. The album also featured a song by Rafael Orozco titled "Solo para ti" which became an all time hit.
In 1996 Jean Carlos Centeno and Jorgito Celedon became lead singers of the Binomio de Oro along with Romero as accordionist and his nephew after Garcia's departure. In 1999 singer Jorgito Celedon quited the group to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Junior Santiago. Later Junior Santiago and "Morre" Romero separated from the group to form their own vallenato group.

Mentiras no tengo nada,
Mentira no tengo nada
Mentiras no tengo nada
Mentira no tengo nada
Aquí estoy si no me has visto
Pa' que vean que no me he muerto (Bis)
Y pa' que vean que no me he muerto
Aquí estoy si no me han visto
The lyrics of Binomio De Oro's song El Secreto describe the singer's sense of shame and uneasiness caused by his obsession with beautiful women. The first stanza sets the tone for the entire song, with the singer confessing to a sense of sadness, pain, and unease that he cannot shake off. He then suggests that this feeling might be due to his constant pursuit of beautiful women, a pursuit that has left him with this burden of guilt.
In the second and third stanzas, the singer reveals that he has a secret that he uses to attract women, though he insists that he is not lying to them. He claims that his secret is a "trick" that he has, but he won't reveal it since it's exclusively for women. The fourth and final stanza contains a promise to a woman that the singer will not be upset if she rejects him, as he wants to prove to everyone that he is still alive and well.
