Bishop Of Hexen Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
What horrifying death awaits for thee
Thousands of tales and speak of pain
Uncounted screams, and tortured limbs
Engulfed by the fire or frozen yet living
Hungry, diseased, or murdered in your linen!
Now think how fortunate you will be
To just wither away and never be
The lyrics of Bishop of Hexen's song Unveil the Curtain of Sanity are dark and ominous, leaving a sense of foreboding in the listener's mind. The first verse begins by inviting the listener to delve into the past, but with a warning - a horrifying death awaits them if they do. The next line goes on to allude to the many tales of pain that exist in the past, which could be a reference to historical events such as the witch hunts or the Holocaust.
The following lines describe the various forms of torture that people have endured throughout history; from being burned alive to being left to die of disease or hunger, or worse, being murdered in their own beds. The chorus of the song simply states that the listener should consider themselves fortunate to not have to experience any of this, and instead should be content with simply withering away and not having to endure the same fate.
Overall, the lyrics of Unveil the Curtain of Sanity paint a bleak picture of humanity's past and serve as a reminder of the atrocities that humans are capable of inflicting upon each other. It also highlights the fragility of life and encourages listeners to appreciate the time that they have.
