Notget
Björk Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Our love couldn't carry you
And I didn't even notice for
Our love kept me safe from
Death
You doubted the lights
And the shelter it can give
Eternal and safe from death
If I regret us
I'm denying my soul to grow
Don't remove my pain
It is my chance to heal
We carry the same wound
But have different cures
Similar injuries
But opposite remedies
After our love ended
Your arms don't carry me
Without love I feel the abyss
Understand your fear of death
I will not forget
This notget
Will you not regret
Having love let go
After our love ended
Your spirit entered me
Now we are the guardians
We'll keep her safe from death
Love will keep all of us safe from death
Love will keep us safe from death
(Safe! From!)
Love will keep all of us safe from death
Death
Love will keep us safe from (from) death
Love will keep all of us safe from death
The song Notget by Björk is a poetic exploration of love and loss. The first verse describes how the singer fell out of love with someone, and because of this, their love wasn't enough to save them from something. However, the singer didn't notice this until it was too late. The next verse addresses doubts about the lights and shelter of love. The line "in love we are immortal, eternal, and safe from death" suggests that love can protect us from the inevitability of death. The chorus reminds us that regretting love is a denial of the soul's growth, and we must embrace pain as an opportunity for healing.
The following verse paints a picture of two people who share a deep wound but have different ways of healing. The final part of the song describes how, after the love ended, the spirit of the other person entered the singer, and now they are both the guardians of something, protecting it from death. The final chorus echoes the idea that love can keep us all safe from death.
Overall, Notget seems to be exploring themes of love, loss, and the human desire for immortality. It suggests that while love can provide us with a sense of safety and protection, it is not always enough to save us from the reality of death. However, the song also has a slightly hopeful tone, suggesting that even when love ends, it can still bring people together and protect them from the abyss of death.

Once you fell out of love
When you no longer loved me
Our love couldn't carry you
Our relationship couldn't support you anymore
And I didn't even notice for
I was oblivious to your unhappiness
Our love kept me safe from

Death
Dying alone
You doubted the lights
You questioned the security of our love
And the shelter it can give
And the protection it can provide
For in love we are immortal
Because love makes us feel eternal
Eternal and safe from death
Forever and protected from dying alone
If I regret us
If I feel remorseful for our relationship
I'm denying my soul to grow
I'm preventing my personal growth
Don't remove my pain
Don't take away my suffering
It is my chance to heal
It's an opportunity for me to recover
We carry the same wound
We both share the same emotional pain
But have different cures
But cope differently
Similar injuries
Comparable emotional scars
But opposite remedies

After our love ended
After our romantic relationship was over
Your arms don't carry me

Understand your fear of death
Comprehend your worry about dying alone
I will not forget
I won't erase what happened between us
This notget
This pain that I feel
Will you not regret
Won't you feel sorry about it too?
