Hm... before I listened to this great Jazzalbum I had the impression for newbies to dicover her and her music to listen trough her albums chronlogily starting with "Debut".
But now I think this amazing Jazzabum is the best entrance!
Musically its very standard not ordinary Jazz but she brings an amzing unique touching passionate interpretation to it which one stample of all her follwering work that people can reconize here even more here where she not interprets her own music and they generally can't understand the lyrics!
This naturlement gets much stronger when she interprets very personal songs later!

It was easy to identify the original versions of most of the songs on this album (no prizes for the Ricochet Romances, Old Lamplighters et cetera), but...this song...it took this writer about twenty years. And then, learning that it was Marc Fontenoy, a French composer, not Mark Fontenoy, an American composer, everything clicked. At last, the mystery of Bella Simamaer has been solved.

Now read the translated Icelandic lyrics again and try to decide which version is worst!
For this writer, as dumb novelty records go, Bjork's version outruns the others by a mile - because, to get away with this, one needs to supply a bubbling-over-with-joie-de-vivre vocal, with plenty of expressive distortions and other ornamentations.
