Black Market Hero Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We just won't leave it alone
We just can't let it die
It's an infection derived inside of all of us
Putrid â€" Now say it again
Is there no cure for this disease?
Just squeeze the life from the soul

It's over now

Your eyes won't see it again
They just don't see at all
It's a decision to wipe this clean and walk away
Filthy â€" but not anymore
There was a cure for this disease
Just bleed the light from inside

It's over now

Then feed us your sanctimonious bullshit
Just one more time

You cannot hide this anymore
You cannot keep this behind closed doors
You cannot hide this anymore

It's over now

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Black Market Hero's song 3D speak about a prevalent infection that is within all of us, originating from the perception and beliefs that we hold. The band sings about not being able to let the infection die, and the decision to abandon it and move on. The infection is described as putrid and filthy - an ailment that drains the soul. The song asks if there is a cure for this disease, and the solution seems to be bleeding out the light from the inside. The song finishes with the notion that the infection has run its course and it's over now.

The lyrics of the song can be interpreted in multiple ways. One way is to look at it as a commentary on the societal norms and beliefs that we inherit and hold onto despite being detrimental. The song could also be interpreted in the context of an individual's journey towards self-discovery and the shedding of old beliefs that no longer serve them. It's a powerful song that speaks about the need for change and letting go of old habits and beliefs to move forward.

One of the most under-rated lead vocals in the industry. Any of the bands Max did lead vocals for would flourish today (Black Market Hero, 40 Below Summer, With Daggers Drawn). He was ahead of his time. Hard to believe this was done nearly 20 years ago. This style of music ages well.
