Worship
Black Market Hero Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come down to the service that saves all our souls
Burn up the contingent that wont believe in you

Everything minus the nothing at all
Aching and rabid and breaking the dog
See you on Sunday your good for the week
(This is your notice served)
Tasting the envy and tasting the sores
Feeling the sickness now drink for the Lord
Drink for a savior that puts you to sleep
(Youll eat what youve been served)

You were never there
You were never there when I was falling

Come down off your pulpit and purify yourself
Sold off your soul for your outer wealth

Given the freedom to swallow the lie
Given the reason to lay down and die
This is the answer its written in blood
(You get what you deserve)
How many shovels to dig all the graves
How many shackles for all of the slaves
How many reasons for you to be saved
(These are you lessons learned)

You were never there
You were never there when I was calling you

Caught inside a story of submission (But I dont believe this)
Force fed, misled, thrown into confusion (And you cant deny this)
Bound, Bound, Look at me now
Just look at the lies
Just look at me now

Worship, and bleed for me now (would you?)
Bleed for me now (on your knees)

Overall Meaning

The song "Worship" by Black Market Hero is a commentary on the manipulative tactics of religious leaders who use fear and guilt to control their followers. The lyrics urge listeners to question blind faith and to be wary of those who claim to have all the answers. The first verse speaks to the idea of salvation and how some people refuse to believe in it, possibly out of fear or a sense of superiority. The chorus emphasizes the idea of blind compliance, encouraging listeners to reflect on their own actions and whether they are blindly following a leader or doctrine. The second verse is a direct call-out to religious leaders who have sold out their values for money or power. The bridge speaks to the theme of being trapped in a false narrative and how difficult it can be to break free from it.

Overall, the song paints a picture of a cynical world where people are controlled by manipulative leaders who prey on their fears and desires. The lyrics are a call to action, urging listeners to wake up and question everything they have been taught.

One of the most under-rated lead vocals in the industry. Any of the bands Max did lead vocals for would flourish today (Black Market Hero, 40 Below Summer, With Daggers Drawn). He was ahead of his time. Hard to believe this was done nearly 20 years ago. This style of music ages well.
