In December 2008, Manu (vocals, lead guitar), Jacko (vocals, bass) and Carlo (rythm guitar, back-vocals), sick of the frustrating, sterile scene of Sicily, start to give life to songs musically influenced by the sound of such bands as Defiance, the Restarts and other old school bands, always keeping the distance from conventional standards and labels of today. At that point, they choose the name Blatoidea, inspired by the Latin word for the name of the genus which cockroaches belong to. The name is a metaphor to today society. Doesn't matter how much we struggle to get a better position in the system, how many wars we win or lose, we are all on the same level, we are the same race, same species, nothing but cockroaches in the eyes of the ones who control the entire thing and they can get rid of all of us in the same way they can get rid them.
They record their first demo "Start an Infection" containing 8 tracks and release it online. Few months after, Fabrizio (drums) joins the band, and they can set up their first tour in Italy. Afterwards, the three original members decide to move to London where, after few months, Luke (drums) joins the band and the band gets back to stages. After a long series of shows around London and sharing the stage with bands like GBH, Anti-Nowhere League, English Dogs, the Restarts, Sick on the Bus, Angelic Upstarts, Peter and the Test Tube Babies, 999, DIscharge, the Varukers, Vice Squad, Red Flag 77, they finally decide to record a new 4 tracks EP called "Alive". After the release, they tour around Europe and in the December 2011 they record their first 11 tracks album called "Infected".

In the name of the god of war
They came to chase the demons
Who which they gave birth
Another inquisition
To purify your soul
Another crucifiction
In the name of Babylon
Holy war Holy war
The witch hunt has begun
Holy war Holy war
Their gun belongs to god
They nuked the people minds
With sacred prophecies
Apocryphal sins
And concealed profits
Another inquisition
To purify your soul
Another crucifiction
In the name of Babylon
The lyrics of Blatoidea's song "Holy War" delve into the concept of religious extremism and the destructive consequences it can have on society. The song begins by using vivid imagery of a "giant black octopus" to symbolize the oppressive force of war that is driven by the belief in a particular god. This imagery conveys the overwhelming power and reach of these extremist forces.
The lyrics then speak of the purpose of this holy war, which is to eradicate the demons that have supposedly been born from the very people they are targeting. This is reminiscent of the historical witch hunts, in which innocent individuals were accused and persecuted for things they had no control over. The song suggests that this new inquisition aims to "purify your soul" through acts of violence, further emphasizing the extremism and lack of empathy present in such movements.
The chorus, with its repetition of "Holy war Holy war," serves to highlight the beginning of this witch hunt and the fanatical fervor accompanying it. The line "Their gun belongs to god" encapsulates the dangerous belief that their violence is justified and even ordained by their religious faith. By attributing their weaponry to a higher power, they absolve themselves of personal responsibility and justify their actions as divine will.
The later verses focus on the manipulation of people's minds through the dissemination of sacred prophecies and concealed profits. This reflects the exploitation that occurs under the guise of religious devotion, with the lyrics suggesting that people's minds are "nuked" with false narratives and distorted interpretations. The phrase "apocryphal sins" points to the notion that these sins may be exaggerated and even invented to further the extremist agenda.
In summary, Blatoidea's "Holy War" reflects on the destructive nature of religious extremism. The imagery of a giant black octopus signifies the overwhelming power of war driven by belief in a particular god. The lyrics imply that this holy war aims to eradicate demons born from the very people being targeted, echoing historical witch hunts. The repetition of "Holy war Holy war" emphasizes the fervor of this inquisition, while the line "Their gun belongs to god" underscores the dangerous belief that their violence is divinely justified. The lyrics also highlight the manipulation of minds through sacred prophecies and concealed profits, suggesting the dissemination of false beliefs to justify extremist acts.
