@Pastell Angell Actually your comment is completely ignorant. No assumptions there. You can't dribble, or control a basketball on a rubber floor. That is why they use polished wood. The rubber flooring on gym floors is used for gymnastics and tumbling and dance and things like that and is laid out specifically for those purposes. I have actually put that flooring down and taken it up again.

My husband is a Custodian in Canada.
Every four years the gym floors are sanded down, closely inspected and resurfaced
And every two years the lines are redone and again inspected.
This is all done so this very thing cannot happen.
This did not happen overnight, and teachers also see the floor regularly and report any wearing.
So yes the school district is guilty of negligence because they have obviously been under funding the maintenance of the floor.

Mhm. In high school percussion this one kid thought it was a funny joke to run up and just JAM a drumstick full force into your behind. And another kid locked a practice room door and he did it to me. We talked to the principal, the SRO officer, and counselor, and they recorded the conversation. And he did get permanently charged as a sexual assault offender. But only got sent to a different school and asked us if we wanted to press charges. Which we agreed to. And I had to go get it checked out by a doctor. Lucky no damage besides some bruising. (Thank god since I already have IBD.) But we never heard another word on what happened with that money. And the doctor visit even after my dad's great insurance from his 27 year so far Air Force career was still 200 somethin' bucks.

Some schools can spend that much i went to woodstown high witch has the middke school conected to it. They had the money to build the middle school their on gym but not update the special needs class so every kid lernt properly i was doing the same classes all four years of high school

@EraPrestigeX It entirely depends on the quality of the wood and it's method of fixing. Good quality wood for a floor in constant use should be oak, mahogany, or beech. While all timber needs care, softwoods need a lot more waxing to avoid splitting and splintering.

Not an expert on gym floors, could it be professional sanded, any loose bits removed and a decent amount of some sort of resin put on it, at least 5-10mm ?

@Bird Brain how far into the game were they? Girls running all over the court after people in the stands had walked all over it getting to the stands? There aren't always signs that a board is going to split or even come loose.

I agree with you the school should replace the whole gym with some better and as far as who can afford it the school can hell they can do charity to raise the money to replace it. Hate love you have the right to your opinion just like everyone else. Imagine if that was anybody else kid they would be saying the same thing your saying I bet poor girl.
