Hate That You Know Me
Bleachers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been talking to strangers
Acting like I'm a stranger
Look like I've been up all night
And you know what? I hate it
I put my things into boxes
Carry all of my old lies
Rubber band in my past time
And you know what? I hate it

Ooh
Long way down
You're such a heart attack
But it feels like, ooh
Pressure points
They pressure you right back
Come on, think about it

Sometimes I hate that you know me so well
Sometimes I, I hate that you know me so well
Some days I, I wish that I wasn't myself
No luck, and I hate that you know me so well

Washed the fear from my hands off
Count mistakes in the sidewalk
Act like I've been up all night
And you know what? I hate it
So I keep talking 'bout eighteen
'Cause I can't let go of the same dream
Rubber band in my past time
And you know what? I hate it

Ooh
Long way down
You're such a heart attack
But it feels like, ooh
Pressure points
They pressure you right back
Come on, think about it

Sometimes I hate that you know me so well
Sometimes I, I hate that you know me so well
Some days I, I wish that I wasn't myself (no)
No luck (no), and I hate that you know me so well
Sometimes (sometimes) I hate that you know me so well (I hate that you know me)
Sometimes (sometimes) I hate that you know me so well
Some days I, I wish that I wasn't myself (myself)
No luck (no), and I hate that you know me so well

And I hate that you know me so well (yeah)
And I hate that you know me so well

Sometimes I hate that you know me so well
Sometimes I, I hate that you know me so well
Some days I, I wish that I wasn't myself (no)
No luck (no), and I hate that you know me so well
Sometimes (sometimes) I hate that you know me so well (I hate that you know me)
Sometimes (sometimes) I hate that you know me so well

Some days I, I wish that I wasn't myself (myself)
No luck, and I hate that you know me so well

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bleachers's song Hate That You Know Me express frustration and resentment towards someone who knows the singer too well. The singer is tired of pretending to be someone they are not and acting like a stranger when talking to new people. The line "look like I've been up all night" suggests that the singer is tired of putting on a facade and trying to appear a certain way to others. They are also carrying the weight of their past with them, represented by the "rubber band in my past time."

The chorus highlights the singer's conflicting emotions towards someone who knows them well. They hate that this person knows them so well, possibly because they feel exposed and vulnerable, but at the same time, they acknowledge the connection this person has to them. The line "some days I wish I wasn't myself" shows the singer's struggle with their identity and how the person they are addressing impacts it. The chorus ends with the repetition of the line "no luck, and I hate that you know me so well," reinforcing the singer's negative feelings towards the other person's insight into their life.

Overall, the lyrics depict a struggle with identity and authenticity, as well as the impact that someone's knowledge of oneself can have on their emotions and sense of self.

I keep coming back to this because of how everyone is having so much fun. Lorde and Carly are superstars of their own and bring an amazing amount of enthusiasm and talent to the vocals here.

Lorde's is completely rocking the hell out, singing and dancing.

The little look between Jack and Carly before her vocal run to check in (and the huge smile by Jack when Carly crushes it.)

The unsung backup vocalists who are killing it

It feels like a bunch of pro performers at the top of their game, just having a good time playing off each other

@mkygod Are you telling me that the backup singers behind the backup singers are actually the backup singer's backup singers?

Interestingly, the background singer behind Lorde is actually Carly's background singer in many of her shows (Ava Raiin)
