Sunday Girl
Blondie feat. Robert Fripp Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know a girl from a lonely street
Cold as ice cream but still as sweet
Dry your eyes Sunday girl
Hey, I saw your guy with a different girl
Looks like he's in another world
Run and hide Sunday girl

Hurry up, hurry up and wait
I stay away all week and still I wait
I got the blues, please come see
What your loving means to me

She can't catch up with the working crowd
The weekend mood and she's feeling proud
Live in dreams Sunday girl

Baby, I would like to go out tonight
If I go with you my folks'll get uptight
Stay at home Sunday girl

Hey, I saw your guy with a different girl
Looks like he's in another world
Run and hide Sunday girl

When I saw you again in the summertime
If your love was as sweet as mine
I could be Sunday's girl

Hurry up, hurry up and wait
I stay away all week and still I wait
I got the blues, please come see
What your loving means to me
Hurry up, hurry up, hurry up and wait
I got the blues, please, please, please come see
What you do to me
I got the blues

Hurry up, hurry up, hurry up and wait
Hurry up, please come see what you do to me

Overall Meaning

The song Sunday Girl by Blondie is about a girl who is trying to navigate her way through a complicated relationship with a guy who is not fully invested in her. The opening line, "I know a girl from a lonely street, Cold as ice cream but still as sweet," paints a picture of a girl who is guarded but still has a soft side. The chorus emphasizes her vulnerability, begging her to "Dry your eyes Sunday girl" and "Run and hide Sunday girl." She is caught in a cycle of waiting for her guy to come around and love her the way she deserves, but he always seems to be with someone else. In the end, the girl imagines a scenario where her love is reciprocated, and she can be the "Sunday girl" who is cherished and loved.

The second verse makes references to the girl's inability to fit in with the "working crowd" and her penchant for living in dreams. This could imply that she is perhaps an artist or a dreamer who doesn't conform to societal expectations, which makes her relationship troubles even more complicated. The bridge emphasizes the girl's longing for her guy, singing "I stay away all week and still I wait, I got the blues please come see, what your loving means to me." The repetition of the phrase "hurry up, hurry up and wait" further emphasizes this idea of a complicated waiting game that the girl is caught up in.

She is past her prime just like every performer , if she still wants to do it and people still fork out to see her So be it , I saw blondie for the eleventh time about seven years ago at a special show in hackney where only 200 people got tickets , I’ve loved her since 1978 ,I bloody loved it , she was struggling with her voice then , so I decided that was that for me , I was going out on a high , I wish her well and a long life , good on ya Debbie , 🌈❤️♥️

Sporty Popsicle (René Lilly)

"Fans" is a mislable for anyone complaining. She's so classy and dignified...Rock on, Debbie!

Nicholas colby

She’s not what she was but who is , I still love her , why be negative ? She’s having a good time and so are the crowd , I hope I’m as good at 77 ❤️

EuroEuphoria

Debbie still has a pretty lilt in her voice and could dump the songs that require her to soar and still put on a great show...that how much great material they have! Depeche Mode on the other hand need to call it a day since their songs have no vocal demand yet the singer sounds like a dying 🐸

rio Babic

Depeche mode are pretty bad. There new songs are very simple and boring !

Michael Mckenna
