"" Formed in 1992 and comprised of members Scott Angelacos (vocals), Matt Easley (guitar), Art Legre (bass), and John Stewart Jr. (drums), Bloodlet specializes in a form of hardcore that's even more angst ridden and brutal than most of their counterparts. Issuing several singles straight away, Bloodlet signed on with the renowned hardcore label Victory not long after their formation, resulting in a trio of releases during the mid to late ‘90s -- 1995's Eclectic (a compilation of their aforementioned early singles), 1996's Entheogen, and 1998's Seraphim Fall, before splitting up. Little was heard from Bloodlet's former members, as most dispersed to other locales. But during their retirement, several up and coming hardcore groups began name checking Bloodlet as an important influence (especially Eighteen Visions, among others), and by late 2001, Bloodlet had reunited and was rehearsing once more. Hooking up with renowned indie producer Steve Albini, Bloodlet issued their fourth release overall in 2002, the hard hitting Three Humid Nights in the Cypress Trees -- picking up exactly where they'd left off several years earlier.

Bloodlet Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to Bloodlet's song "Cherubim" depict a dramatic and apocalyptic scene, where a small group of chosen individuals manages to slip through the cracks of a house of bondage, and unleashes upon the hearts of the wicked. The four angels hold the four winds, while the seven trumpets sound, indicating a moment of great importance and transformation. The existence is sustained on hatred, and the fervor and clamor rise, augmented by the blood of the martyrs. The innocence died at birth, and the anguish of the guilty is hidden in corners, lost and cornered in the depths of your mind, hunched in the shadows of your conscience. The four bloodstained walls that surround it cannot silence the screams of your guilt. Finally, the lyrics call upon the infidel to bow down, and as they lose their faith, they lose their life.
The lyrics to "Cherubim" are deeply symbolic and full of religious references. The title of the song is a reference to the mythological beings that guard the throne of God in the Bible. Similarly, the four angels holding the four winds and the seven trumpets are also mentioned in the Bible's book of Revelation as the precursors to the end of the world. The lyrics describe a world that is sustained on hatred and fueled by the blood of the martyrs, indicating a society that is on the brink of collapse.
