My Never
Blue October Lyrics

Will you think of me in time
It's never my luck so never mind
I want to say your name but
The pain starts again
It's never my luck so never mind

I had a dream that you with me and
It wasn't my fault you rolled me over
Flipped me over a somersault and that
Doesn't happen to me I've never been
Here before I saw forever in my never
And I stood outside her heaven

Will you wait for me in time
It's never my luck so I'll say never mind
I lost a lot of what I don't expect to ever return
I tend to push til the pushing' goes from hurting' to burnt
I always take them to that place
I thought they wanted to go
Then end up dancing 'around this
Clown commands applause at his show

I had a dream that you with me and
It wasn't my fault you rolled me over
Flipped me over like a somersault and
That doesn't happen to me
I've never been here before
I saw forever in my never and
I stood outside her heaven her heaven
Inside her heaven her heaven

I can only dream of you and
Sleep that I never see sunlight
Again I can try to be with you but
Somehow I'll end up just losing a friend and
I can only reach for you relate to you
I'm losing my friend where did she go where

I had a dream that you with me
It wasn't my fault you rolled me over
Flipped me over a somersault and
That doesn't happen to me
I've never been here before but I saw forever
In my never and I stood outside her heaven

I stood outside her heaven I stood outside her heaven
Wont you let me into your heaven

Overall Meaning

The song "My Never" by Blue October is a melancholic reflection on lost love and the fear of rejection. The songwriter ponders whether the person he has lost still remembers him and if she will think of him someday. He is haunted by her memory, and even uttering her name brings back the pain of losing her. The line "It's never my luck so never mind" suggests a resigned acceptance of his fate and a reluctance to seek closure.

The second verse introduces a dream sequence where the singer imagines that the person he loves is with him. However, the dream quickly turns ominous, as she rolls him over and flips him over like a somersault. The sudden change in tone and the surreal image of a somersault suggest that the singer feels out of control, helpless, and vulnerable. He is experiencing something new and strange, which makes him realize that he has never been in love like this before.

The chorus (or refrain) repeats the dream and the phrase "I stood outside her heaven," suggesting that the singer feels unworthy of his lover and resigned to being on the outside looking in. The final plea, "Wont you let me into your heaven," is both a cry for help and a fear of rejection.

Overall, "My Never" is a poignant exploration of lost love and the pain of rejection. The dream sequence adds an element of surrealism and unpredictability, highlighting the singer's vulnerability and insecurity.

on Congratulations

Spent many nights in 2006 crying myself to sleep listening to this song from Blue October's Foiled album. Although different than the interpreted mean, It helped me realize that often times a relationship is dead long before it's over.
