Current members of Blue October include Justin Furstenfeld (lead vocals), Ryan Delahoussaye (violin/viola, mandolin, keyboards, and vocals), Jeremy Furstenfeld (drums, percussion), Matt Noveskey (bass guitar) and Will Knaak (guitar).
Popularized by their platinum-certified album Foiled (2006), which features the hit singles “Hate Me” and “Into the Ocean,” the group has continued to evolve… shifting from a far more pensive sound to one that is more optimistic and reflective of lead singer/songwriter/guitarist Justin Furstenfeld’s transformation—which will also be the focus of his soon-to-be-released documentary film, I Want It.
Once known for their stormy dynamic and self-destructive tendencies, Blue October couldn’t be more distinct from the band it once was, which is why their latest studio album, I Hope You’re Happy, looks to push the envelope even further with a whole new approach. Justin Furstenfeld is quoted as saying "I think Blue October should never be limited to the instruments we have in the band. I’m always about bringing in whoever can play what’s best for the song in. I’m also a huge fan of Peter Gabriel, and if you were to him all you can have is a guitarist a bassist and a drummer, he’d go “what?!” That’s how I feel. We took all the tools we had gotten from working all these kinds of people over the twenty-year span and made a really good album and we’re super proud of it. It’s nice and colorful and positive and universally themed. It’s something you can really sink your teeth into and not get sick of. You can always discover little new secrets about it along the way."
Their latest album, I Hope You're Happy, was released on August 17, 2018 on the band's own Up/Down Records label and was produced by Justin Furstenfeld and engineer Eric Holtz.
Previous band members have included Liz Mulally, Brant Coulter, Dwayne Casey, Piper Dagnino, Julian Mandrake, CB Hudson and Matthew Ostrander.

When your love would pull me through
When nights were long
When your love would make me strong
When time, regretful to say, in the gentlest way over you
Maybe I should follow your lead and turn as is it never meant a thing to me
When you're flying with your head down, feeling blown away
When you're sleeping with the lights on, staring all the way
When you're heading for a fall then roll over to me, to me, roll over to me
When I had you
When your arms would hold me true
When nights were long
When your love would make me strong
When time, regretful to say, just go you own way and you do
Maybe I should swallow this pride and turn as is it never meant a thing to me
When you're flying with your head down, feeling blown away
When you're battered and bound by all the things you say
When you're sleeping with the lights on, staring all the way
When you're heading for a fall then roll over to me, to me, roll over to me
If we can take the chances, then there's nothing that we can't do
If we can take the chances, then there's nothing, nothing, that we can't do
When you're flying with your head down, feeling blown away
When you're battered and bound by all the things you say
When you're sleeping with the lights on, staring all the way
When you're heading for a fall then roll over to me, to me, roll over to me
The song “Over” by Blue October is a ballad about a past relationship that the singer is reflecting back on. The lyrics describe the memories of how he felt when he was with his lover and how her love was a source of strength and comfort for him. However, over time, the relationship ended and the singer is left with the regret of not being able to hold onto it.
The opening lines “When I had you / When your love would pull me through / When nights were long / When your love would make me strong” evoke the feeling of safety and comfort that the singer once experienced in the relationship. The following lines, “When time, regretful to say, in the gentlest way over you / Maybe I should follow your lead and turn as is it never meant a thing to me,” indicate that the relationship has ended, and the singer is struggling with coming to terms with it. He suggests that maybe he should try to move on as his ex-partner has.
The chorus of the song brings in the idea of support and being there for someone in their time of need. The lines “When you're flying with your head down, feeling blown away / When you're battered and bound by all the things you say / When you're sleeping with the lights on, staring all the way / When you're heading for a fall then roll over to me, to me, roll over to me” depict a person who is struggling and could use someone to lean on. The singer offers to be that person for his ex-partner, but it is not clear if the offer is genuine or if it is just the lingering feelings of love talking.
In the final verse, the singer discusses the power of taking chances together. He suggests that if they can take risks and face things together, they can overcome anything. However, it is left unclear whether this is just wishful thinking or if it is still possible for them to reconcile and be together.
Overall, the song “Over” by Blue October is an emotional and reflective piece about the memories of a past relationship and the regret that often comes with it. It speaks to the theme of nostalgia and the idea that we can never truly recapture the past.

lyrics:
You always said that I would never find a better one
Well look at me I did that shit
Well come on now
Come on now
You always said that I would end up alone
Well, look at me, I'm on top of the world
You were wrong now
You were wrong now
You like it better when I'm falling apart
It's easier for you to go and break my heart
Come on now
Yeah, come on now
Well the best way to get back at you
Is to live my life, be happy and true
Come on now
Yeah, I've been hurt, but I'm moving on
So long
So long
Yeah, I've been hurt, but I'm moving on
So long
So long
We've all been hurt, yeah
You're not good for my soul
The one that cares less always has control
Well I'm taking that back and you'll be amazed cause
I only get better looking with age
You like it better when I'm…
