During 1970 and 1971, Wailer, Marley and Tosh worked with renowned reggae producers Leslie Kong and Lee "Scratch" Perry.
They released four albums before signing to Island Records in 1972. Two more albums were created before Tosh and Wailer left the band in 1974, citing grievances over label treatment and ideological differences. Marley carried on with a new line-up, including the I-Threes that put out seven more more albums. Marley died in 1981.
The Wailers were a groundbreaking ska and reggae group, noted for songs such as "Simmer Down", "Trenchtown Rock", "Nice Time", "War", "Stir It Up" and "Get Up, Stand Up".

Screwface
Bob Marley & The Wailers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Screwface know-a who fi frighten!
Screwface know-a who fi frighten!
Like I told, they say, "Coward, man".
Gonna keep some bones
And all violent man gonna weep and moan.
He that exalted him say, "Yeah!"
Shall be obeyed.
Remember Jah - Jah children deh!
Don't dread no pain.
Fear do we go now
To the rivers of ungodly waters, we'll fear no foe
(Fear no foe, fear no foe).
Wherever I go,
Not even the pestilence
That crawl at I'n'I
Can't do - wo-wo-wo - me no wrong
(Just can't do me no wrong).
Oh, now!
I tell you what red is!
I tell you what I know:
(Screwface know-a who fi frighten!)
Screwface know-a who fi frighten!
Screwface know-a who fi frighten! Wo, now!
(Screwface know-a who fi frighten!)
Screwface will frighten screwface!
(Screwface know-a who fi frighten!)
Long time gone, y'all!
(Screwface know-a who fi frighten!)
Screwface will frighten screwface!
Wo, yeah! Now!
(Screwface know-a who fi frighten!)

(Intrumental ending)
The lyrics of Screwface by Bob Marley & The Wailers address the issue of violence and power dynamics in Jamaican society. Interestingly, Screwface is a term used in Jamaica to describe someone who wears a hardened facial expression that conveys no emotion or friendliness. The song seems to suggest that individuals who wear the Screwface are using it as a tool of intimidation and violence to gain power over others. The lyrics warn these violent individuals to remember that they will eventually reap what they have sowed and their actions will catch up with them.
The chorus of the song, "Screwface know-a who fi frighten!" is a warning to those with the Screwface that they cannot intimidate or scare everyone. The song's message is that eventually, their negative actions will catch up with them, and they will lose their power. Throughout the song, Marley reminds the listener not to be afraid of violence and to remember Jah's children, which is a reference to the belief in Rastafarianism that all people are equal and worthy of respect. The song's overall message is that violence and intimidation are not the solution to problems and can only bring negative consequences.

Screwface know-a que assusta!
Screwface know-a que assusta!
Como eu disse, eles dizem: "Covarde, cara"
Vou manter alguns ossos
E todo homem violento vai chorar e gemer
Oh agora!
já te digo
eu te digo de novo
(Screwface know-a que assusta!)
Screwface know-a que assusta!
Screwface know-a que assusta! Uau, agora!
(Screwface sabe quem assusta!) Screwface vai assustar
Cara de parafuso!
(Screwface sabe quem assusta!) Muito tempo se foi, pessoal!

Cara de parafuso!
Uau, sim! Agora!
